ive read a lot of threads where people have mentioned their musical "talent" on here.....
so i was wondering.....would anyone be interested in a .org callaberation done over the net??
I cant play any instruments per;se...but I can programme drum beats, guitars, actually any instrument you care to imagine can be programmed using midi and a simple midi controller.....
I have a home based studio with what i like to think is a pretty good set up..cubase / protools / reason..loads of plug ins/effects..midi controllers..tannoy studio monitors etc etc...
anyone on here have the gear to record themselves playing an instrument?
if so we could all decide on a tempo....all record a riff/lick/beat whatever u like...send me the audio file...ill bang them together and see what we could come up with??
anyone interested?? im just testing the water....
oh and if anyone clicks on my myspace link please be aware thats old tracks on there lol...ive improved in my ability a bit since i last uploaded a track!!!!
cheers

Oooh , I run Cubase SX 2 and play guitar , but you may not like my playing LOL , let`s just say I practice with Metallica songs and tend to play quite fast and hard , currently learning to play slower tempo with a cleaner sound .

I don't want to detract from your skills, but that goes against all my principles. I believe music should be played, not 'made'.

I can play bass.
And I have a way of recording my riffs that I write to an SD card, which I could then send you.
Can also play a little bit of guitar

ok all good progress...
lets decide on a tempo.....your call...
badger..good work....i like all music, once we have decided on a tempo i think u should do the mentalist mentalist bit and send it on....
hovis....already had u in mind for bez!!! (still aint found a kinder egg...and lost £70 at the casino grrrrr)
woz...totally agree my friend...however..tis todays climate...there is not one musical peice in the top ten that didnt originate in a midi based studio....yes when u see these acts live they have live instruments however i can garuentee (excuse spelling) u it started in a studio and was "made" not "played" (saying that i dont even know what the top ten are cuz there all carp!!!....although i do like that girl who kissed a girl...and liked it!!)
liam.....when the tempo is decided your the bass man....ill put together what i have send you the file and u write a bass riff to it....
ArtyLady....ska...i love ska...dont have a great knowleage of it...(madness? thats ska oriantated right??)...hhhmmmm not sure how to get round that one unless recorded into a phone hence quality wouldnt be too good....
so todays round up.....
regardless of what you play...what style it is..lets get it on.....matalica? no probs....ill fuse everything together as best i can and see what we get...would be a laugh at least and may give me some inspiration in the studio...atm im stuck with producing for friends who are just into hip hop rubbish......so....ready when you are!!!
so what tempo??

The best I can do is to record a guitar riff or lick or something through a webcam; i worked out a way to get a half decent sound (enclose the amp and webcam with pillows!). Will that be ok? It'll be done with a microsoft lifecam, I cant remember the file type (.wav i think?)

I have a decent recording setup in my line6 pod xt live, with which I can get any guitar tone acoustic or electric to record anything you fancy at a lossless quality, what sort of music do you want? I play a lot of flamenco style stuff, could work well with rapping or mc-ing. I've been interested in a while in doing a london elektricity type thing.

Yep - Madness, Bad Manners, the Specials, all that sort of stuff and we're doing some UB40 too - great fun to do
I'll see if I can find a way of recording thats better quality than a phone  and lay down a few licks (probably more blues than Ska though) :D

Nothing wrong with clarinet :smt023

he went forward a bit then back a bit... Also its important not to confuse him with Manchester era indie dancing legend Cressa of The Stone Roses...

wow lots of replies.....
all sounds good....just need to think how to go about it now.....
this is what im thinking.....
anyone who wants to be involved....record a 1 minute piece and save it as a .wav file (preferably but mp3 would be ok just would loose some quality)
the people that use studio gear and know what this means..save as a 44hz 16bit .wav file as you would when bouncing down to audio...(not 24bit takes up too much space!) anyone else any audio file will do.
email the file to me with .org track in the title (pm me for my email addy) also adding your .org name.
it can be in any key / any combo of chord progressions etc...basically recored one minute of whatever u like in any style....and that includes the clarinet!! (my dad played clarinet, bongos and drums in band called black roots in the late 70's / 80;s)
if we set a date say 1 month from now? so 13th november? for everyone to get the file to me....
then once i have them all....i will make a track out of all the sounds that have been sent to me and not use anything else...
so ill treat each file thats sent to me as a sample....i can add effects / chop them up..reverse them etc etc and see what we can come up with...
i think at the start ill play each sound and say each persons .org name of who sent that sound in....then go into the tune :D
christmas .org number one??? lol

I think we could do with deciding what key it's going to be in.
Otherwise I could end up writing a abss part in D when everything else is in A or something.
Dappa D
13-10-08, 09:40 AM
ok...liam you decide on a key and go from there....
I was thinking if some people dont have a knowleadge of keys it might get confusing...so u say a key....people that want to record in that key do so...and those that dont ill change the sound to fit.....??? all good??

I don't want to detract from your skills, but that goes against all my principles. I believe music should be played, not 'made'.
Even back in the 80s programmers were used for everything. Absolutely everything. Sometimes "making" the track or other times just helping to stick it all together.
The talent in "making" music is making something that people want to listen to.
The music industry is obscene anyway. The week 4th oct-11th october Kate Perry's I kissed a girl had 2500 plays (on uk radio in 1 week)
disturbia by rihanna 2000, there have been about 6 songs with all 2000plays+ and the rest are under 1000 bar a couple.

that would be really good - I find inspiration comes more easily when Im "jamming" than if I try to play completely on my own
I have some headphones/mic...Ive recorded into that (on the computers built .wav recorder but it only up to 60 seconds long) problem is there is a lot of hissing going on - I dont have the software/nowhow to clean that up - is that something you could do DD?

Maybe just pick a tempo and we'll work around it?

It would be a good idea to lay down a base to start with, and then that could be either added to or changed by people. If it's decent i'll probably end up making a whole track just for shiggles really!
I can use a studio pretty well but I don't have one at my disposal unfortunately...otherwise i'd record live drums/piano/bass whatever (which i can play).
Dappa D
15-10-08, 09:52 AM
right then ive put together a really simple starting point...(apologies if its not great i only had about 15 minutes before work this morning!)
so...what would be better?....i can load it up to my myspace page and people can download it from there (would be mp3 mind)
or pm me and i can email the proper .wav file???
its 100 bpm...its a simple drum part..with just a lil atmosphere over the top...but can of course be changed in any way...its just a starting point....
MCN_LiamM
15-10-08, 09:58 AM
I think Myspce would be better.
Just to be clear, you're not expecting us to record over the beat are you?
We're recording seperately and then you're piecing it all together?
Dappa D
15-10-08, 10:05 AM
yea sorry not record over the top....
as u say..record seperatly so all u send to me is your recorded piece....ive uploaded it to my myspace page (link in my signiture) might take a few hours to process not sure how long it takes.....
its called org project and u just click download underneath it once its on there :-)
wow not been on hear for ages well since i was made redundant from work and went to uni to do my degree in music tech of with im in my second year i once did a track called SV. org but i think Plowsies the only one that heard it when we was on the north wales 2 ride out. but this sounds like a fun idea i have a protools and cubase studio with quite a big backline of guitars and drums i also use Reason 4 for a lot of orcestral stuff. I play drums, guitar, bass and keyboards i'l have i listern to your track and see if these owt i can add to it.
Dappa D
15-10-08, 11:19 AM

I mainly use: Reason, Ableton, Floops, far too many VSTS to mention and a SH-101, ESX-1, ER-1, EA-1, KP1. I can DJ 12s and scratch too. I'd be up for a collaboration, but not for another few weeks till I get home net access.

Those funny acronyms are bits of hardware, mainly Korg stuff. I've got an unbuilt x0xbox (extremely accurate TR-303 replica) waiting to be built and a cycloops mini-sampler too.
