Long shot I know but you never know.

I have a solution of Potassium Carbonate, it has a pH of 12-13.

Is there any way I can lower this to say 9 without heavily diluting the solution.

So far I have tried Sulphuric acid, Phosphoric acid and citric acid. there was alot of effervescence and Potassium precipitation.

Someone suggested I try Ferric Chloride.

Any thoughts anyone, if you've not fallen asleep. :D

A little bit of discussion with my friend about lewis acids (he's worked with them alot in the past year or so!) yields the answer that yea, FeCl3 should work. The protic acids are just causing the release of the carbon dioxide :D

My friend said to filter the FeCl3 solution before you add it; there's alot of crap that comes out in there if its left standing

AlCl3 might also work.

Name your topping. However, due to recent tyre-screw and tyre-nail interaction, my prices have risen

Cheers Matt,

I'll give it a go, I just need to get my hands on a bit of FeCl3 solution.

If it works I'll see you right for a coke or slice of pizza.

(just been informed AlCl3 is quite a strong lewis acid...so 1) you probably one get it and 2) you dont need to use it)
