View Full Version : Riding to work? how easy?
I live about 7 miles from my work, mostly motorway so pretty simple route. That's not what i'm thinking would be hard though, I have to wear a suit so i'm not sure how it's going to work! Apparently there are lockers and showers at the bottom of the building but there's a waiting list for the lockers. Any of you lot got a tried and tested method?
thats why i go in the car, its only 4 miles, and it just does not seem worth the hassle

ps you can pick up the armour cheap on ebay £30 - £40
Leave your suit jacket at work on the back of the chair. Leave shoes under desk. Nip into the loo to change keks. Once a week bring the car or go on the bus with a backpack with a supply of clean shirts, leave in desk drawer. Or else stuff it all in a tank bag. Simple. It can be a hassle though. I only work 3 miles away and while I love going the long way round it's still a nuisance. So sometimes I just sit there in my leathers all day and if people don't like it well that's too bad.

Get your company to have a casual dress policy like mine does its much much easier :D
As the others have said leave as much as possible at work and then get changed in the loo's
I found rolling stuff up makes it less prone to creasing that folding does.
 it's still a nuisance. So sometimes I just sit there in my leathers all day and if people don't like it well that's too bad.
yeah, but you work in a weirdo kinky fetish shop

i leave my jacket at work, use a knox bag to take my shoes, trousers, and shirt into work every day, and get changed at work - at times my shirt is a little creased but nothing too bad,

I have a number of different techniques depending on situation, normally I leave my trousers, shoes, jacket and tie at work then put a folded shirt in my bag and get changed at work as I'll tend to wear 1/2 piece leathers.
When it's a bit cooler I wear cordura and wear work trousers under them and a shirt under my jacket.

I go in the car on a Monday and take clean trousers and stuff them in my rucksack on the way home Friday - take a shirt every day - its a little creased but no worse than sitting in the car IMO...
Oh and this is on a push-bike ;) Its only 8 miles so not worth getting the bike out really - try that instead and save some cash ;)
As what has already been said, leave jacket and shoes at work.
I live quite close to work, so I just leave my shirt and trousers on under my textiles. Haven't had any complaints so far!
i leave my shoes in work, i dont need a suit jacket, but if i did it could stay in work, and other than that just through the leather jacket on, and heavy denim, or waterproofs over the trousers, i dont seem to be that creased when i get there, and to be honest i dont care, its the only fun i get all day
Casual dress code means I turn up in what I like... on cold days I do the same as Ed & sit there in bike gear.
Doesn't help you much though. :(

I commute over 600 miles a week to get to work on the bike or I walk about a mile, depends which house I am staying in. I leave most of my clothing at work, too much hassle to keep bringing it back and forth in either a tank bag or back pack.
I get dressed in work clothes, put on all my textile gear, then take all the textile gear off when I get to work. Have attended interviews in this fashion, never had a problem with a suit under bike clothes. Only issue is shoes...and I get around that by having a pair of bike boots that don't look too out of place with work trousers.
Yeah its easy. Just wear your stuff under textiles, and keep shoes under the desk.
I cycle sometimes, so take 4 or 5 shirts in a back pack occasionally and hang them up on the radiator behind my desk, they're generally crease free after a while. In saying that, even with a creased shirt I'd still be smart enough.
Also got trousers under my desk for when I cycle, and wet wipes to de-sweat as much as possible!
I used to do 27 miles.
Textile lowers, boots, thick jacket, jumper etc..
Shirt and trousers were always fine underneath.
As said, i take my shoes to work, they've never left. So i come to work, slide clothes off, put shoes on, quick face/hand wash and a cup of tea and ready to rock and roll.
4 miles though, would the bike be warm? I'd be tempted to cycle that distance.

but in fairness you do own your work place dont you??
If I have meetings I dont ride to work.....If I dont then I ride if its nice lol
i put on my work cloths ie shirt and trousers jumper etc, then put textils on overt he job, bike boots, when i get to work i get my shows out from under my desk, and remove the textils
the only problem i found was that if i was wear just a shirt it would be a little creased around the waist band

same as other have said. i wear shirt and trousers under my textiles (or did - I cycle / bus now as it's only 7 miles) used the bike to get to meetings too, and just turned up a little early and got changed in the car park - bike jacket, trousers and boots off, shoes and suit jacket on.
I wear a shirt and tie and leather trousers and boots - roll up my work trousers and shoes in a rucksac and change at work - we also have showers and changing rooms downstairs ( you're not in Swindon are you ? )
The only other thing I take is a towel so I can wet and dry my hair else I look like Keith Flint from the prodigy ( Arai helmet hair ! )
Mind, it's such a faff I mostly take the car through laziness ...
