View Full Version : How Windy?

Just wondering how windy does it have to be to blow a SV over. Thats assuming you've parked it side on leaning into the wind. :confused: (with full farings)
Without calculating Wind Load (and treating the SV like a sail, which it in no way resembles anyway)...
My guess is a wind around 40mph, maybe gusting a little stronger would be enough to push the SV over it's side stand. (sidestand points into the wind). It's at 40mph that it's noticably difficult to walk.
Note though that the wind direction generally changes (a lot), and if the bike isn't in gear, the sidestand is liable to fold in if the bike is pushed backwards.
EDIT: If anyone wants to calculate Wind Load it's as follows:
Load = Sail area X (wind speed)^2 X 0.00431.
Sail area is in square feet, wind speed is in knots, and that gives a Load rated in lbs. Conversion may be necessary.

Don't you mean if pushed forwards?

Yeah if the bike is pushed forward Baph!!!! :-P
Pointy will be much easier to kick over....I mean push! I mean get blown over!
The wind would prob be scared to hit a pointy cos they is so uggggly!

so leave it in gear if its a bit breezy, but don't worry about it unless there are old people blowing (yik yik) past.
a bike cover is only making it worse
