View Full Version : Single sided swingarm
Just been looking at some of the images on home page and spotted a stunning curvy with single sided swingarm (page 24 images). Wondered if anyone knew anything about the bike and what swingarm was used. Looks like a duke back wheel so probably duke swingarm, just wondered if anyone knows any different.

Yes, go to http://www.bayarearidersforum.com and search for posts by 'tygaboy'.
It was IIRC an RC30 swingarm (needing lots and lots of work, VFR750 is meant to be far easier) and 916 rear wheel.

Seems to be quite popular with the septics, not seen one over here.
Try on svrider.com too
Considering it makes the bike heavier.

Oh yeah it doesn't actually do anything, it's just trick.

That tygaboy dude is basically awesome.
I think I would like something snazzy, but lighter, else I just couldn't see the point.
Well done chaps, thanks for the info, I have an nc24 in shed gathering dust, but to be honest I think the single sided suits the looks of the curvy better than it would my pointy. I presume an nc30 swingarm would fit and allow the use of a 160 section tyre.

Tygaboy is the man. "I wish I had a carbon fibre tank for my SV. I know! I'll learn how to make carbon fibre tanks, then make one, for a laugh".
One of the guys on SV Rider has managed to wedge some sort of VFR arm into his pointy without any welding... But to be honest it's a horrific bodge, the suspension arrangement he's built for it is just madness. If you want to do it, do it right. I think speedfab would do one for about £250 notes...
Tyre size etc is down to various things- arm choice, wheel choice, fitment.

750cc and 400cc
750cc and 400cc
And about 10 grand.
RC30 swingarm will take 180 section tyre, NC30 will take 150, maybe 160 section at a squeeze.

so apart from a rc30 rear swing arm what can be used (that dosnt take a phd to fit) triumph 955 maybe or something else

The big issue is whether the shock will line up and whether the exhaust will fit through the hole in the 'arm.
RC30 arm will cost a fortune, NC30 will be cheaper but smaller tyre. VFR750 might be cheap and also will probably fit the exhaust through the middle too (big tyre on these). I know this has been done!
Any arm will fit it's just a question of doing it without it costing the earth.
what about a trick double sided arm? RSV mille?

the lack of rear end, and tiny exhaust make that bike look silly

VFR750F from about 88 onwards, maybe VFR800 V tec worth a look.
There is a vfr400 frame, swingarm and rear disc on evilbay at the moment 60 squid buy it now.
link might work: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vfr400-frame-swing-arm-rear-disc-bargain_W0QQitemZ280341957014QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item280341957014
Sellers feedback score isn't great though so you might have to visit him with a big stick;)

Personally I wouldn't have a bike like that because it would be a total PITA.
It's something done completely for aesthetics, so much like rim tape, bellypans, race rep paint jobs. It looks gay.

It is, I think- he's had various rear ends on that.
