A Google street view car came into our private road this morning, then belted off when I shouted and chased after him, didn't get the reg plate.
Not sure what our rights are here, but I'm miffed that someone may be able view my house and cars and bike in the future, despite the fact the vehicle was technically trespassing.

E-mail a complaint to google and see what they say.
It may have been a simple mistake so just point it out to them.

Google reckon they hide registration numbers and people's faces. Still doesnt stop the opportunist thief to check out a house, drive, garage, etc. and find out what goodies are on offer without leaving the house.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it all gets checked before they publish it so they block things out like an open garage, you can still see the garage but any contents would be pixelated.
I would do what phil said and just email them with the road name or area and let em know its private and ask them not to publish it, they can only say no and then you look about taking it further :)

Not so when I took a look around the neighbourhood in Perth, WA where my ex now lives while I was on the phone to her. I could see her landlord's ute's reg number as clear as day.

Regarding Australia they are meant to block faces and number plates but are not doing.
'In 2007, Google pledged not to identify faces or number plates in Australia. However, as of August 2008, it is still possible to view both.' From Wiki
