Yeah a mate in the job is going to Canada, taken him years so far, can't be done with all that, they seem a bit long winded on their transferring. Want to be gone by end of next year :) or start of next.

I've been invited to attend an interview with a major engineering company out in Perth. I've already had an hour long phone nterview and now they say I can make final arrangements for a formal one closer to a date I know I'll be over there.

Know a friend's daughter out in Perth, she likes it so much she's married an Aussie and had a kid with him, she has absolutely no desire to come back to Blighty! Don't blame her though really.

Good luck though, hope you get it!

My only thing stopping me last time was my ex and my Mum. Ex is just that and has not been replaced and my Mum is happy and settled now so I don't have to really worry about her.

My life is just the same old and I want a new challenge. I been pondering this w/e, for some reason I have been down and figured I need to build me a life. I am not young and need to sort myself out.

I wrote down what would keep me in the UK and I listed what I wanted out of life, and then I found myself looking on 'StepForward' website, so simply followed my fingers.

I must want to do something like this as it's twice I have filled in the form? Am I brave enough to send it back?

If you don't enjoy it you can always come back, but I say go for it Shell if you've got the opportunity, do it now while you can i.e. before you find another bloke to tie you down

You know you want to!

I want to go and live in Oz but my job isn't one of the ones that Austrailia needs so I don't think I'd get a Visa.

Never been to Oz. But when I went to Washington last year I very nearly didn't come back. Didn't have a work permit but found a job, and found a place for us all (3 of us) to live, and a school for Sophie. Only I couldn't do it to Anne. Although when I got home she told me that she wouldn't have been surprised to get a call. And then life got in the way again. We're back to the USA next year...

 Perth > Sydney though is about the same as San Francisco > New York! It would be one hell of a trek for a rideout. I have never been to Perth/WA and even though I'm touring round Australia for the next 4 month, I'm still not going to make it to the West coast. It's a shame, because I have a load of friends here in Sydney who came from Perth and the West coast is supposed to be lovely. It is the most remote city in the world though!

I can only comment on the difference in lifestyle from London to Sydney as that is my experience, but I would say that neither city is a true reflection on the rest of each respective country in terms of cost of living!

I earn roughly half what I earned in London, though due to a combination of cheaper living and less monthly outgoings, I have ended up better off at the end of the month. The weather is awesome! Seriously, it is amazing what sun can do for your mood! Yes, it rains from time to time, but 80% of the time is sunny. There are some amazing roads and and places to go biking, though 2nd bike prices are generally more inflated than the UK and kit is generally more expensive. Petrol is cheap though as are trackdays :)

I miss family and have only been able to get back to the UK to visit once this year. Christmas in the middle of summer is just plain wrong, though a 3 week holiday in the summer for christmas is pretty nice!

Not sure what else to say; as others have mentioned, if you don't like it, you can always return, but I guess if you don't try, then you'll never know!

If you want to know anything else then just give me shout :D

Strange, I only know 2 people who have done the emigration thing. Both were failures in their lives in this country and assumed foreign parts were going to be the land of opportunity. How wrong they were. One went bust in South Africa then Australia and finally in New Zealand He was a printer who liked his pop too much.

The second was a mechanic, he worked for Lancs Police and got a job fettling cars/bikes etc for an Aussie force. Once his buy a bride from Manila dropped a sprog he suddenly decided health care, conditions, salary etc were crap and he couldn't afford to stay out there so came back with his tail between his legs.

I get the feeling that the lands of flowing milk and honey are ok if you have the gumption to grab the oppurtunities. But if you are the sort to sit back and wait for them to come looking for you. Well then you will be a failure wherever you go.

Lucky b*gger :D

I've only ever been to Australia, to Melbourne/Cairns & Woomera if you know it (it was for work followed by a bit of a holiday :D).

I hear NZ is quieter, greener, not sure how I would get on with it but I should really try first ;)

Perth rocks ( freemantle cool too)

when i was ther found it comparable in prices, as in bit cheper to live ( 10-15%) but earned that much less so ces't la vie

one thing was the way it get s dark in WA one minute light next pitch black

Perth does get a bad rep in Aus generally for 2 reasons its the most anglised place still even though its the closeste to indonesia and it has a rep as its the place people seem to run away to if the rest of thier life down under is a bunch of **** , but i thought it was cool ( just a bit far from everything else )

Thanks for all the input guys, but I have decided that there is nothing like going to a place yaself to see if its for you, so ....... guess where I am going?

Not sure how I am going to fund it, may even sell the bike to do it (if I move i'd sell anyway and it's winter now so no great loss) but I have to bribe work into having 2 months off work while I am not operational. Got a meeting tomorrow so lets see if I can flutter my eyelashes enough!

My mate is going over there just prior to Xmas and she is visiting our mate who has gone to join the police and he is in Perth, may try and go with her for the first part, she was meant to take me with her on her last visit but she forgot me ..... wonder why LOL

Good luck. You'll get truckloads of AUD$ for your pounds. :) But not a lot of great bike roads round Perth; in no time, you're in the desert and straight roads except for southwest corner towards Margaret River and Cape Leeuwin.

I had a year working in Perth back in 1999 to 2000.
Absolutely loved the place. It will probably be the place I will end up in...few years from now.
Its the sun I tell you its the sun!!!. Most days are warm to hot and because of that the outdoor life is fantastic. I lived in South Perth (just over the river and next to a big park). Every day you saw people cycling, running and roller blading. Free BBQ's for the public to use (just give it a clean and bring your own food etc. The place really is set up for people to live there lives to the full.

Also Perth still has strong British links so you can still buy beer in a pint glass, non of this 1/3 or 1/2 glass measures. And the local health and safety lot randomly visit the bars 3 times a year and take random checks of the beer lines to ensure that they are clean. 2 Strikes and the owner will lose there license. Therefore they generally clean the lines every night.
Fremantle’s nice too. And on a weekend drive 1 hour north or south and you can have a full beach to yourself, with nobody around for miles.

Well that’s my rant, as you can tell I liked the place so if you get the chance my advise would be to give it a go.

Ohh and wor lass thinks that a few of the blokes were fit....not sure if that helps you any
