Well it's a no go dead end street, originally screwed up my left ankle walking home on the 4 th of July , never went to the hospital for the injuries and figured I'd just nurse it myself , it's been months now and it's still a painful pain in the ass so today i finally went to have it examined and the prognoses is not good , it turns out I've torn ligaments and tendons which preceded to heal out of place making everyday walking for prolonged periods of time painful , well what does this mean?...I won't be able to even take the Motorcycle Course for a license ....In which case I'll have to leave you all and i thank you for the welcome here , you are all a great bunch of folks ....Good luck in your endeavors Peace Out Hang Man

Rubbish, get some off road boots, squeeze you gammy ankle into those, bite you lip at the pain and get on with it, you can do far more than you think if you put your mind to it, you may have misalined ligaments, mine are from dead people.
Cheers Mark.

Surgery, you can correct ligaments.
Surgery, you can correct ligaments.
+1
There are ways around it, don't give up to quickly have a look at other options.
Whatever you decide take care, all the best.

+ 1, I shouldn't still be in the job I am in after all my injuries. They are methods to help with most handy caps, even without surgery, but the biggest thing to have is mental strength. Do not give in, and never take no for an answer!

positive atitude all the way, I was told you'll always walk with a limp and winter will be a nightmare after my crash. 17 years on and it's fine. As long as you don't give in and you "know" it'll be ok then most of the time it will be.

Injuries can be fixed, and you can adapt. There are people out there riding with one leg, one arm, all sorts. Mick Doohan won 5 GP500 titles with his less-than-great right leg.
Just because you dont have a bike, dosnt mean you dont have to be part of the fun :D stick around here for the banter at least

+ 1, you will get the chance to ride a bike in the future. I have two ankle injuries, and all the other injuries, and I still ride.
My left leg was almost severed in a bike RTA in 2004 and literally only a tendon behind the knee was keeping it attached. Today I ride bikes, I walk, I run, and I can still carry out my duties. Becks (my missus) was told I wouldn't make it through the night, and if I did I wouldn't have a leg. I proved both statements wrong, and everyday I prove the other statements wrong too....
Don't ever give up on yourself or on your dreams, having the will and drive to get up and make a difference is the greatest thing a person can do.
My ankle is always giving me problems since I knackered it, my boots were a problem as they gave no support.
Just bought some alpinestar SMX plus boots this weekend and the improvment in support and protection is amazing.
As they said to the 3 million dollar man (or was that Mark?), we can rebuild you.

I think Mark is more of the 3 quid man thanks to the NHS! ;)
Yup - more of the same from me - Can't walk = Can Ride.
Hell - I'm barely 30% weight bearing on a good day with the dodgy leg, but I only need to put one on the ground to keep the bike upright when I've stopped...
... just had to re-learn the habit of a lifetime and start putting the right one down instead of the left. At least it stopped the IAM whinging at me.

I have numerous tendon injuries in my arm and a dodgy shoulder (long story) which hurt all the time...I put some mahoosive bar risers on (not that cool looking but I dont care!) so I dont put my weight through it...problem solved - hurts all the time but the pain soon fades when youre out there on the bike
Hope something can be sorted for you. :)

Isnt Hangman in the US?
I think he might actually need 3 million dollars to pay for the fix.
They don't have the national health service over there...:(
I was chatting to a bloke in wyoming who explained that he couldn't afford the 800 dollars a month for a family health care scheme out of his 1500 dollars a month pay packet and was hoping his kids wouldnt get sick.......................

I have a meccano hip and half a knee and it doesn't stop me. Doesn't even stop me mountain biking :geek: having said that it's one thing to carry on when you've injured yourself and another to start something new when you're already hurt... I wouldn't have taken up biking if I'd already messed my leg up, I think.
All the best whatever happens anyway, if nothing else bike forums are usually a good place to moan about knackered ligaments, broken bones etc :D

Thanks for the chin up Guys . Today was the worst day yet , the pain was unbearable for 8 hours of work but i stuck it out with that cheep brace they gave me and i still have to visit a doctor who is covered in the insurance plan and get their opinion on treatment but it looks like surgery.
I'm not worried about the cost i have a good health plan , i just hate Hospitals I've cracked my Knee Cap before and didn't seek medical attention (because i Hate Hospitals) I've also cracked my ribs in a bicycle accident and never went to the ER and eventually a few months later it heald and it was all good. I Just Can't imagine someone cutting me open.
Dangerous Dave ...That's some serious stuff (i would have died with that amount of injuries)
I still want an SV though and I'll have to wait and see how it plays out .
To top off the day i found out that another Hang Glider Pilot brother lost his life this Saturday , talk about a punch in the face.

Sorry to hear about the injury.
Glad to hear you have the insurance sorted.
(you're one of the few)
Go ahead and get that thing operated on...will you???
You waiting for it to fall off???
Like others said...MX boots will work. No need to give up riding.
Hope you're better soon !!! ;)
On US insurance/healthcare...
Had none to cover injuries from an accident 6 July this year.
A broken collarbone, 2 ribs and a banged up knee cost me right at enough to have bought a new FJR1300. :(
Have a accident/health plan now.
Can't afford not too. :(
Yes, we have the best healthcare money can buy.
...as long as you have the money.

I agree with everyone. I split my Pelvis (the ligaments at the front) & broke my back in January. I was told I might just be getting on my feet in 6 months - In March I picked my new bike up & in May I was back at work full time. The Physio called me a modern day wonder, but I put it down to mind power - if you want something enough then you will succeed.
Get youself sorted & get riding a bike :)

I nearly did, I had more saline in my system than blood when I got to the hospital. The first operation lasted over 8 hours and I took 36/38 units of blood, same again the next day....
You need to speak to a doctor mate, its called quality of life and they should do something to relieve the pain.

Don't give up on biking Hangman, its not over til the fat lady sings as they say.
My other half endured 10 years of constant pain in his hip after being T-boned in a bike accident, he nearly lost his leg it was so shattered, :crutches:he never sat on a bike 'square' after that, but because hes stubborn he just carried on riding as soon as he was able.
In July this year he had a full hip replacement, as although the scaffolding was holding well, the ball and cup of the hip was completely trashed from having one leg longer than the other and ten years of wear and tear.
Within 8 weeks he was back on the bike, and its the first time hes sat on a bike square in ten years, with no pain.......the surgeon said it was fine to do so, as a fellow biker he knew he couldn't 'advise' him not to(cause he'd just do it anyway:roll:) ....all he said was that it would be prudent to try and bounce on the other hip if he came off as he wouldn't be happy if his hard work was ruined

How true Bannanaman and thanks to all for sharing your stories , you are a credit to your Sport , Surgery begins on Monday ...4 Hrs of operating and 2 months of recovery but I'm hoping to be back to work in 30 days or less (bills won't pay themselves) .....I'd like to share this little story with you all.
A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign
advertising the 4 pups, and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard.
As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of a little boy.
'Mister,' he said, 'I want to buy one of your puppies.'
'Well,' said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, 'These puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.'
The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. ''I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?'
'Sure,' said the farmer, and with that, he let out a whistle. 'Here, Dolly!' he called.
Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly, followed by four little balls of fur.
The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse....
Slowly another little ball appeared, this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up....
'I want that one,' the little boy said, pointing to the runt. The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said, 'Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would.'
With that, the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg, attaching itself to a specially made shoe.
Looking back up at the farmer, he said, 'You see sir, I don't run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands.' With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little pup. Holding it carefully, he handed it to the little boy.
How much?' asked the little boy.
'No charge,' answered the farmer. 'There's no charge for love.'
The world is full of people who need someone who understands. It's National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND.
And that goes for all of you SV650 . Orgers:)

It's always hard to make decisions that are best for the long term.....especially when it invloves suffering in the short term.
But all will work out for the best if you just hang in there.
And I know you can....after all....you are the hang man! ;)
Prayers for a speedy recovery!
From someone who's learned the hard way....if at all possible ...
Don't rush going back to work till the DR. says it's OK.
