Treated myself to some super posh Hovis bread (http://www.hovisbakery.co.uk/hovis-range/seed-sensations-rich-roasted/) 8)

It was really really expensive (for bread) ... so I expected to be in gastric bliss :smt004 ... sadly it really wasn't anything special ...

Anyone else been disappointed by Hovis (bread)?

My fave bread is Morrisons Sunflower and Pumpkin seeded loaf ... its megga yummy :)

Warburtons all the way for me. Once sent Mr Warburton an email saying...

'I like your bread'

He sent me one back saying...

'I'm glad you like our bread'

Yes, it was very thick/dense ... that is one of the properties I didn't like about it ... doesn't melt in the mouth spreading the flavour sensation and sits on the stomach ... the Morrisons stuff is far more 'airy' 8)

lol, yeah but I said I liked it, its actually really nice, light, moist(not soggy or stodgy), the slices are proper medium (not thick)and it stays fresher, unlike the Hovis loaf you bought, that always goes really dry.

The last white loaf I had I had to ask Jax what it was, she told me it was Warburtons, and its bloody fantastic.

I think I might have to e-mail them too.

now that one is a good one too, but its a bit more expensive than the Burgen. You can get it in a small loaf, so if you don't like it, you've not wasted much

my favourite is the cheese-topped bun/roll things you get from the bakery.

OMNOMNOMNOM

Specially when they're fresh.

I found an 8 inch spring once in a loaf of Hovis. Hovis said they were very sorry and it was part of the bread making machine.

or are you like my dad and have a bread maker, and do it yourself, which isn't technically free, but more satisfying making it yourself

No-Fair - Why don't I get bread for free? :(

Well the bloke who gets it me free used to get me free computers so I don't do so well as I did.

An old work colleague who now is a lorry driver and delivers bread. He gets so much free a week and then has to pay 25p a loaf after that, so I get 2 loaves a week plus anything else I fancy (crumpets, pancakes).

No I have not threatened anyway LOL ... I do have the odd mate here and there lol :)

No that's what I thought and I asked him out right. I would think that but this guy is so straight. They get 14 loaves a week free and then pay for anything else, this apparently stops them being pinched.

I am trusting his word as I know he is a honest guy. Still prefer the free computers LOL

Me too, I am cultured, elegant and scrub well if I can be bothered, I just have a great skill and a brother i used to compete with. My Sister though is all lady, until she has three gins down her neck, then she is just as bad as me!

Yes indeedy, it takes all types to make a world, including batch loaves.

It really is like bread, isn't it. By now I know the types I like and those I don't, although if there's something new and interesting in the grocery store I'll probably have a look and a feel, or walk on by if it doesn't appeal at all. My fave btw is Sainsbury Taste the Difference oatmeal topped, without the seeds. My decision, don't have to justify it to anyone. Oh, and I'm self-taught, didn't need anyone on my post grad to tell me;)

When I was a kid, we moved into a big house in the middle of nowhere, at first mum was getting bread delivered by the tray from mothers pride everyday. but they decided not to deal with end users and as the nearest bakers was about 6 miles away mum had no choice but to bake a couple of loaves a day.

So for 15 years the house stunk of fresh bread, even now I cannot abide the factory produced stodge. I therefore buy my bread from my local bakers. Made that morning, still warm and wrapped in a piece of paper not sweating in a plastic bag.

French stick, chiapata, anything fresh - if we're taking "innabag" then multiseeded warbuton's.

I'd give the Asda one a try but it aint local enough.
