my clock plastics(clear circles over speedo and rev counter) are fairly scuffed n' scratched and annoying me lately. can these be taken out and swapped with ones from another clock set-up? have taken the back off the clocks before but nothing more than that.

Maybe try renovo plastic window polish, which might help. Can't vouch for it, as I haven't tried it. But I saw it the other day in my Frosts catalogue, plus many other useful products. Check it out at www.frost.co.uk (http://www.frost.co.uk) item number u219.

Problem is you can't get them individually, you either have to source a new complete unit of have some made.

my dad is a watch/clock maker and a little tip he gave me was to use Brasso. You can polish out most scratches from clear plastic with Brasso and a little patience.

no, autosol is pretty abrasive, brasso isn't as bad.....OCD polisher alert, never tried it on plastic, thats going on the top tip for topday!

thing is my clock faces have a lot, and i mean a lot of little hairline scratches which are making them very cloudy(last time i accept help from well-meaning others with cleaning my bike:rolleyes:) even if autosol is more abrasive than brasso if used conservatively dya reckon it'd do the trick or just completely ruin them? its good for headlights, or so ive heard.

Too harsh an abrasive will just make them go totally cloudy

toothpaste with baking soda in, like arm and hammer, is a very good plastic polish.

You can just replace the assemblies mind- not just the clear bit but that whole chunk of casing- so maybe trying to find one in better nick would make more sense.

true, but just wanted to give the polishing approach a try first.

Yes, tooth paste would be another good choice. I've seen that it can be used to polish the scatches out of DVD or CD's so it would be fine for clock covers.

As will the solvents in some polishes!

brasso and a bit of scrubbin did the trick. took the foggyness right out. still a couple of deeper scratches left but i can live with those. at least i can see clearly through it now. thanks flymo ;)
