Hi all,

I wondered if I may let you know about a bunch of kids that really need our help. I know a little girl called Amy who, along with her friends, suffers from a very rare illness called Cockayne Syndrome.

I have decided to take on the London Marathon on 26th April 2009 as a way to raise money for the Amy and Friends (http://www.amyandfriends.org)charity and would really appreciate your help and support in doing so.

I know that there are many many deserving charities out there that equally deserve support but having met some of these kids in person I couldnt resist wanting to do something to help. So, thought I'ld pick something relatively easy like a marathon :(.....oh my god what have I let myself in for.

If you would like to support me by making a small donation then please do so at my fundraising page here (http://www.justgiving.com/mikes_marathon_2009). Any amount would help, no matter how small. Go on, dig that change out of your pocket and send it to Amy.

If you have any questions about this please dont hesitate to post or give me a shout in a PM.

Thanks guys/girls,

Mike

Quite the opposite, those tenners soon add up.

Was thinking of carving up a couple of old Pirelli SC race tyres to glue some new grippy soles on my trainers :-) give me more grip in the corners.

Hi everyone,

Wondered if I might update you on my London Marathon effort this year.

Firstly, a huge thank you to all those who have shown support both financially and with words of encouragement, it really has helped me to get out and run on days when I’ve felt like not bothering. I’m coming to the end of a long 6 month training programme that culminates with the marathon itself this coming Sunday.

I’ve been through 2 pairs of running shoes covering something like 400 miles or more, run in the hot sun, cold nights, rainy days and even on ice over the winter in 20mph gales getting drenched by waves from the river. All character building stuff that is behind me now ready for the big day. It’s been pretty tough but I feel better for it and really happy that I managed to stick to the training programme for nearly 6 months.

If you haven’t already it isn’t too late to help out. Just follow the link in my signature and make a donation if you wish, any amount would be welcome. The charity I am supporting, ‘Amy and friends’, have already benefitted from the donations that have been made and are making really good progress in establishing a community of doctors interested in pooling their expertise to assist these children.

You can track my progress live through the marathon here (http://www.adidas.com/campaigns/londonmarathon/content/ss09/) or by texting 'RUN' to 83040 from a WAP phone. My running number is 28887.

I’ll let you know how it went next week :-)

Thanks again

Mike
