I got a http://www.yuasa-battery.co.uk/motorcycles/motorcyclebatteries.html and went for the high capacity replacement, not the straight replacement. Its twice the size but strong as anything (plus handy of you want to run heated grips/Sat Nav etc).

that seems cheap,

but is it as good as one costing twice as much?

or is it worth paying for a better/stronger battery?

I'd guess its better than half as good.

when you mean twice the size, does this affect the fitting under the seat?? (Iv got a 2000 curvy, as you can see!! <<<)

And as long as I keep it topped up with the optimate, I don't forsee any problems.

Not quite literally twice the size but a hell of a lot taller, remember lifting the old battery out and putting it next to the new one and it looking teeny in comparison. First thought was he's given me the wrong one, this is not going to remotely fit. It fits exactly though but is a squeeze and have to give the seat a shove down to bolt it. Another few mill and it wouldnt have fit.

Will dig out the part No as its a beast, feels like it could turn a truck over! Even with my old battery on full charge, you could feel the electrics slightly labour when trying to turn over. With this, the bike literally explodes into life as soon as the starter is prodded and its the same when left for a few weeks with the alarm on.

But if you are not planning on keeping the bike for any amount of time i'd go for the eBay one above and save some cash - it'll do the trick.

BTW - mine is a pointy, dont know whether the battery compartment on the curvy is a different size?

Yuasa 'YTX12-BS MG' Looks like its K3+ only though. Looks like that eBay one has similar part No. Different make and has acid pack - mine is sealed Gel.

Give him a ring ( I did ) yes, it has acid, but it's sealed when the acid has been added.
Mine's a pointy so yes, maybe yours is different for a curvey.

Actually, got the make wrong, mines a Dynavolt. The Yuasa was the other one i was quoted on. Paid around 60 squids.

cool, thanks for the info. there is a battery specialist near where i live. gona drop them a line tomorow and see what the best battery i can get is!

what are the pros and cons of the acid and gel batteries?

Gel batteries contain (as the name suggests) no liquid so will not spew acid everywhere in the event of a case split. They also require no maintenance i.e topping up with distilled water. Gel batteries can also dispense their charge at a higher rate than liquid bats and also lose charge via self-discharge at a lower rate.

Cons are you pay a premium for them. If you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gel_battery#Gel_battery then it seems there are also types called AGM that seem even better but not heard of that before.
