View Full Version : 1,000mph car...
Ah yes, but what's its carbon footprint?
It'll probably have a poor tank range and steering lock too...

Why not?
I can see it now - Melody on her way back from an emergency birth - some woman trapped in a car going into labour or something - in the Air Ambulance which is then diverted to the Hamster's latest smash-up
Now THAT would be Poetic :)

I don't want to drive. Jesus what would you look like if that thing crashed at 1000mph.
I dare to think :o
Great read - thanks!

You wouldnt look like anything as you would probably be vapourised!
I dont think I would like to drive it......its a very big risk......I cant even begin to imagine the forces at those speeds, the slightly bump in the surface and it could be all over.

thats cheating a bit isnt it... its just a rocket aimed horizontally not vertically?

Goldenrod still holds the record for the fastest "wheel driven" record at a frankly pathetic 409mph....

Edit: Doh that was for non-blown engines - the record is actually held by Turbinator (a turbine powered thing) at 458mph...

It does seem like an odd challenge.....what is the qualifying rules for a land speed record.....I guess it does not have to be a car, thats capable of turning.
Therefore they could rig up a a long rail type system and fire a rocket with a man in it along that?
Crazy that it will be traveling faster than the speed of a bullet from a hand gun.

I think it just has to be in contact with the ground at all times...
Not ever sure it needs wheels? Would skids be any better? More friction though I guess...
Nope the front wheel does need to be capable of turning... if you read the whole story it mentions that in it.

The rules state that the vehicle must have at least 4 wheels - they don't say anything about which ones must steer though - Thrust SSC had a unique (thus far anyway) wheel configuration.
2 x fixed wheel at the front 'corners' & 2 x steering wheels just off-set along the centre axis at the rear of the car
