I'm under fire for not doing enough for the kids brithdays, it is true I sort of leave it to my wife as she loves shopping and gets a real kick out of it. I do loads with the kids, but shopping (unless for bike stuff) doesn't do it for me.

So I am now tasked with finding a really good present for my 4 year old sons birthday, I have quite a few ideas but am just seeing if the org has any better ones.

I'm not into point scoring, but if it kicks the **** of the ones she bought then all the better.

Cheers,
Kev

how about some of those wooden toys from Early Learning? my four year old loves em, Brio wooden train sets are brill, I play with harrys, they can make their own tracks, another good thing is a play rug with roads on, they drive their cars all over it, try your local carpet shop, or Toys r us.
NOTHING! repeat NOTHING that needs batteries!! (or makes noises!)

How about a Kiddi Moto:

Recommended for ages 1-5. Got one for my nephew last year & he's never off it :p

Oops forgot to say no bikes.........banned until Xmas........due to a recent bit of bad behaviour. Until that point a new big boys bike was the present as his Kawasaki is a bit too small now the stabilisers are off.

Anything related to Thomas the Tank engine always goes down well.

Though we have got PJ a mini moto for xmas, and he's only 3 and a half. But he did say he wanted a motorbike.

It's my 4 year old son's birthday at the end of next month.

He's getting the typical stuff really, lego (which he's into in a huge way at the moment - loves building), he's recently had a new scooter as an early present (the mrs is a sucker when he asks for stuff). He's also getting a miniature radio controller 'copter - one of those 'virtually indestructible' ones - which will last all of about 5mins, so good job they're cheap. But he'll get to rebuild it with me when it breaks.

Not sure, but his old quad (electric variety) is a little past it's best, so might replace that.

He's also into animals, and has seen a SpungeBob Squarepants aquarium (luckily it's cheap), so the mrs wants to get that for him & a couple of fish. I've said she can, so long as she can work out where we can put it safely.

Then obviously there's the party to pay for, so it's just whatever anyone else gets him.

Can't remember what my son got for his 4th. Its his 7th on Sunday, but what do you get a kid thats got everything. He doesn't have quads or anything spectacular but I ain't got any space.

His rooms is full to the rafters and I have to slyly get rid of stuff each year for everything people buy him for birthday and xmas. Last xmas he got 4 megablok pirate ships, loads of islands, and all the lego type stuff that goes with em, trying to get round that lot with a hoover is a nightmare

Ben 10 stuff is in at the mo, Dylan got the omnitrix watch last year, so now hes an alien when he wears that.

Hes off to the local play gym thing today..loads of slides, cargo nets, ball pools, swlings and stuff for him and his mates to do, while i pull my hair out hearing screeching kids. Maybe Sunday we'll take him up to the steam railway for the day, he loves going on the train up there

This:

is superb. I was playing it with my neice (who is 4) a couple of weekends back. As the reviews say, the butterflies do sometimes get stuck, but a quicky tap of the trunk soon gets them flowing again.

Firm believer in kids love basic stuff. Don't waste your money on expensive toys (except your own expensive toy;)) as it's not recognised or valued. The best toys are things that last forever and keep them occupied for ages. Lego is always terrific, train sets, etc. Or clothes. Or take him to have a cool haircut.

Something remote control? Obviously nothing too technical, they have little cars and suchlike for that age range I believe. My little brother used to love that stuff, would keep him busy for hours hehe

I'm a little over 4, & I've never had a cool haircut - I didn't even know that such a thing was possible?

Kev. Isn't it obvious? By purchasing a set of carbon wheels for the CBR you will give him endless enjoyment as a pillion with the exceptional flickability and low rotating mass it gives you. Do it, do it for him. Life is nothing without sacrifices!

My boy (coming up 5) has been into cars and bikes since he started. He is very easy to buy for. So long as it has wheels he's happy.

Last year he got a wooden garage and a load of toy cars.

He got a remote controlled dumper truck lots of sound effects and stuff. He got a radio controlled mini and stunt motorbike that could do better wheelies than I can.

Apart from the garage (which was damn expensive for something that looked so cheap) all the items were around the £10 mark. He still plays with all the above a year on.

LMAO - that sort of thing is just how I got to this stage, when Mrs.H saw how much I had spent on my bike this month..........

The thing is some bike kit for him and some love handles, would be perfect for him, he'd love to come on the back, but he is just a bit too small IMO.

Mmmmmmm carbon wheels, I like. More carbon fibre please...........have my eye on a few bits once this months expenses have dissappeared off of her radar.

Now back to the presents.

Another idea. One of those trampolines with the netting that goes all the way round. My kids have one of these too and that also gets used every single time we have good enough weather for the kids to play outside.

This is the one my kids have.

I remember when Will was about three, we went to Little monkeys, and there was a ball pool with an air-powered cannon to fire the balls back into the ball-pool. I still remember we were having a nice relaxing drink when we heard the words over the tannoy

"Can the Little blonde boy in the blue shirt Please take his head out of the Air-Cannon!"
Thats my Boy!!!

So far, I'm thinking:

Mini drum kit.
Ben 10/Four Arms dressing up kit.
Mini Moto - Pretty sure that would be a few nights sleeping in the shed though.

Couple of years ago during a storm the wind picked up our trampoline and just dumped it in some random spot. Guess you're familiar with that... ;)

As for presents +1 on Brio and carpet with road markings. If you also provide some 'Cars' - Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sally, Doc etc - you'll be aces with him.

Failing that a Wii, it's good exercise...

OK so that is actually MY back garden or MY trampoline, but I do have a trampoline exactly the same as that. The difference between that picture and the one if I were to show of the trampoline in my back garden is that you would only actually get to see half my garden. The trampoline covers the other half. Literally.

Hows about a Water Rocket - they are really cheap kits - about £12 - and you half- fill a coke bottle (other soft drink bottles also work) with water, use a bike pump into the bottle top and then pump it up until the pressure sends the rocket soaring into the air - kids absolutely love it, and good lesson about pressure etc..
