View Full Version : 33bhp bike for wor lass
Hi All
Looking for some feedback from you wonderful lot.
Wor lass has just passed her 33bhp test today:p
However I am stuck in 2 minds and therefore am looking for some suggestions/advice.
She has a cg125 now but I thinks it worth her getting something closer to the 33bhp so when she moves up its not such a big step.
I have a NON pointy (the faster ones...especially in black) sv650s.
So should I get that restricted to 33bhp (and what would this cost to get done at a dealer?) or buy something else that does not need restricting?
Shes a good 6 foot tall so anything small is not really a starter.
Cheers the mighty .org....

Sell the CG and get a proper bike for her so its not such a shock when the restriction is lifted. My Mrs is running a Variable valve Bandit 400 and absoulutly loves it plus its much nicer to go for a ride out with her because the speed is similar. Its just the acceleration she lacks over the SV.

Pointys are a piece of cake to restrict and theres one on here for a bargain of £1500.
go here (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=119680)!
Cheers JJ 1500 sounds too good to be true.
Also I should of mentioned that if she gets my bike to restrict then I may have to go shopping for myself.......: )

Ponty is a ECU
but youve got a curvy... you need to buy specfici washers that sit in the carbs to bring it down to 33 bhp.
I would go second hand as new set is well over £100.
Or get her, her own bike as CG is worth abit probly.
Get teh bigger bike.
She'll get used to the weight, handling, braking characteristics of a larger bike. When it comes to full power she'll have more control and idea of whats underneath her.
125's are so small its much harder to learn to cope with the massive extra weight.
Holding back power is easy, don't move your right wrist so much, but the weight, braking etc comes with experience.

Restrict the SV, and get the Suzuki restrictor too, but it will cost if you go to a dealer to fit it.

Go for a bike that can be restricted
Pointy SV can be restricted for nothing if the offer is still on. Apparently Suzuki are willing to give restricted ECU for nothing go on thier web site.
I got a curvy restricting carbs were £75 new
Dont get washer restricters they ***p
I jealous she got a huge choice of bikes I have the opposite problem being vertically restricted:(
Happy shopping

It is free for all models which can be restricted via a Suzuki product, but you have to buy the bike from a Suzuki dealer (new/secondhand).

The SV still runs great whilst restricted, so that's a good idea. If you feel flush or can get a good deal, the new Kwak Ninja 250 looks sweet and is exactly 33bhp. Apparently way too much fun for what it is as well - shouldn't be allowed and all that.
Cheers,

H*nda Bros 400 if you fancy a standard 33bhp monster and a cool retro one too. The only negative is the price they hold now.

Bit of dodginess here... the washers work fine on the curvy. On an injected motor they're a total bodge because FI int. couldn't be arsed designing a proper solution. Motor is still putting fuel in while airflow is restricted. Results in running sloppy rich.
For the curvy both the OEM and the FI int. kit work about as well as something that chops your bikes balls off can work.
For the pointy it's gotta be the ECU method.
Remember the free 33bhp ECU deal is only if you buy the bike from a dealer, which means getting your pants pulled down on the price.

That was probably because it was an IL4, they are horrible to ride when restricted.

Correct, in fact it never actually stopped all those years ago and the deal applies to new or used.

Engines were crap anyway, never had decent fuelling unless fettled with and as yours was being strangled it probably didn't help either.

I've got a curvy SVS, seems to run OK for me.. :p
Still accelerates nicely... enough there to scare you coming straight from a CG125 :D
Yorkie_Chris really knows his stuff well, so I'd follow his advice if I were you...
Cheers for all the advice. You lot are thinking along the same lines as me.
SO after some chats this weekend wor lass will get the SV (only lent to her you understand).
We had a quote for the offical SV restrictor for 180 all fitted with the paper and stuff . The dealer is only 5 minutes away so its the one for us.
.....and just in case you were wondering I have spent the day ringing around for a new SuperDuke for moi:D so everyone is very happy.
If I am working in the UK next year we (wor lass and I) will try an meet up and say thanks
