View Full Version : Christmas meal anybody?

Sean_C
26-10-08, 05:46 PM
Lissa and I were talking earlier, and we thought that it might be nice to have a christmas meal, to brighten up the winter of you miserable lot :D

Lissa has suggested this place in Peterborough as somewhere to go:

http://www.pub-explorer.com/cambs/pub/woodmanpeterborough.htm

Peterborough seems like a good place for it to be, its not a million miles away for any of us.

Depending on if there's much interest, we'll sort out a date later. How many of you are up for this?

That pub is 72 miles from me - not too bad at all...

....and it's pant's......there are much better places to eat out in Peterborough....I know I lived there for over 25 years. Peterborough works for me....I've got Family and friends there that I can crash at. But I think somewhere in the City centre would be best.

Would King's Lynn be any better for you Skip? I know of a hotel that does a decent Crimbo party.

Are the missuses invited?

Either way...great idea....I'm up for it....but need to look at the dates.

Missuses invited is best I think, more chance of us being allowed out :D
Who said December? :p

Where would you suggest as a good place out in Peterborough Keith?
I don't mind organising, I just don't know the town, never eaten out there ;)

BigBaddad
27-10-08, 11:43 AM
Do you want a party night....or just a meal???....perhaps we should have a poll.

And we need a date, because all the good venues get booked early.

Sean_C
27-10-08, 11:47 AM
I was thinking just a meal, perhaps of an afternoon so we're not out and about late ;)
End of november? December is probably booked. Sundays will be the best for me. I'll see if I can add a poll to my first post..

27-10-08, 11:49 AM
Sorry guys, I was under the impression this was gonna be a Saturday or Sunday lunch time.

We couldn't do an evening gig. Also a meal place out of town we thought would be nicer and better for leaving the bikes.

BigBaddad
27-10-08, 11:55 AM
Yeah a lunch time meal would be great too....I'm easy. A good pub will do nicely then. Peterborough has some great village pubs.

When someone says Christmas meal, I think lots to drink, sprout fights and then just find a dry corner to fall to sleep in.

Sean_C
27-10-08, 11:57 AM
There's an Ask in Peterborough. Looks like there's a car park behind it, but that's not exactly ideal for parking bikes.

I'll ask about for a good village pub for lunch. Oh and Sean, you wouldn't want to leave your bike in Yaxley.

27-10-08, 02:15 PM
There's also the harvester at the East of England Showground. Also the Cuckoo not too far from it. Then there's the Angel Spice, if anyone fancies an Indian, as well as a buffet indian on the side of the A1 at Sawtry. The Farmers is ok if you like carvery. The Admiral Wells has good food. The Gordon Arms have a permenant 2 for 1 menu, and the foods ok.....This is sounding like I go out way too much!!

Mr Speirs

On Sean C's map the pin point is a little off so if you zoom in is on the corner of Station Road and Yaxley Road just before the train tracks. The gravely area is the car park.

I think you should ring up and see if you can provisionally book with deposit to follow in say a week.

Then we can firm up the numbers of those posted so far and give others the chance to commit too. Can't see why it should be too much of a problem to add a few more to the meal later on anyway.

Let us know when you need the dosh and we'll send it off double quick time. :D

On a different subject: Good luck today Sean and heed you dad's advice. ;)

Sean_C
28-10-08, 09:53 AM

Mr Speirs

Provisonally 14. But it may rise due to people not seeing this thread yet. But if we can provisionally book it as Pete said that would super.

Sean_C
28-10-08, 01:03 PM
Provisionally booked for 14 on the 6th of december for 12 o clock or thereabouts. The biggest table they can make up is for 10, so 4 people will have to cope with being near by. There might not be 14 of us yet anyway, but do people mind?

If we go ahead, I have to send a cheque for the deposit, which I'd do at the beginning of next week. But we'll wait and see what the interest is first.

petevtwin650
29-10-08, 07:59 AM
Not wishing to throw a spanner in the works, but perhaps we should be looking for somewhere that can seat us all at one table. Not going to be much fun for the 4 sat elsewhere.

A Harvester was mentioned by Mick by the Showground and that's one of the ones we found initially. They do a Festive 3 course menu for £13.50. Of course they may not be able to seat us on one table either.

If we stick with the original choice then I think we should ask for two tables seating 6 and 8, or we stick Sean and Mr Speirs on a table and watch Seggons chat up their ladies all afternoon. :smt057:smt057

Ooooh - (intermittant computer working at the moment ) count me in - I'll be in the car :( but I'm sure you lot can make up for that in the entertainment stakes. ;)

I'll be 'Billy No Mates' too and have no objection to sitting on the old codgers table where we can talk about the good old days, when bikes were real bikes and your test just involved some bloke standing on a street corner! :D

Oh yeah - 6th is good for me too.

Sean_C
29-10-08, 08:53 AM

Just as a idea Sean, maybe it might be a good idea to put all the important details in the first post so people don't have to read through x amount of pages to make sure they have the correct place, date etc. :)

Yep, though I think I'll make a new thread for final details. Much to do on your bike Scott?

All the cogs start turning tomorrow. I managed to get the clip-on I was after from Flaming Squirrel for a fraction of the cost it would've been new. I've got Paul from Doc2Wheels (http://www.doc2wheels.co.uk/) coming out tomorrow evening to pick the bike up and take it to his where he will look over it. Hopefully it will need no more then stop switch assy, bar ends and the brake cylinder assy for it to be road legal again.

Then it's just a case of buying a new upper fairing for it. :D
