I've been given a job by a supplier we currently use.
The prospects are better, there's a car, 7K a year more etc - so it makes sense to take job.
But, i have a really good relationship with MD at current place. Job is interesting etc - sme politics between departments.
How do i approach MD to tell him i'm off without upsetting him as i feel leaving will drop company in $hite.
The supplier is used where we work, and i have checked contract etc - nothing in it about not working for people within a period of time.
ARGH!
Having recently been in that position myself. I told my boss I was off and basically they matched what my future company was offering and then a couple of other bits on top.
You have to look after yourself. Don't think of the company, think of yourself. Your company don't care about you, regardless of what they say.

Agree with what the APe has said No company unless you own it will really care about you and your well being. Extra money means increased Quality of life! who does not want that?

+1.....I recently got offered a job elsewhere after having looked for ages. Went to hand my notice and was immediately given a counter offer of a 30% increase and a new role doing something I have actually wanted to do for some time. At the end of the day, the worst they can say is....."Ok, thanks, all the best for the future". But you may be surprised, if they do have any finances remaining in the budget and value you that much they may tempt you to stay.
+1 on the Apester advice
+ another one.
You're not the only person holding the company together, remember that. It'll function with another person in your place. Take the new job and just explain to your current boss that you're sorry, but you have to do what you have to do. If he matches the offer then stay.

So they didn't try to match the money or persuade you to stay? Point proved, I think.
Simon - you ought to become a HR consultant.
