View Full Version : Need a Van!!!!
Without going into proper detail,
I need a van to transport a particular persons R6 from a recovery place in Newbury to my house. I will not bother to go into detail here, but if there is anyone that can help (before Thursday) please let me know.
Cheers
Si.

You have pm
Pm sent back Mari.
I got the details slightly wrong and I have more information.
The place of pick up is Culham. The place of delivery is my house. The bike has to be picked up before Thursday. Opening hours are between 9 and 5.30.
The bike will need to be lifted not wheeled.
If anyone can confirm assistance that would be very helpful.
Many thanks.
Si.

I might be able to lift etc, but depending on when you do it as I have work most of the time. :(

If we can do it later in the day ie 5pm then I might be able to help with the carrying. Will need to know asap as I will have to change my working pattern on that day.

I don't have a van but i have a box trailer that could take a bike (I think the trailer chassis was an ex-bike trailer as it has brakes and suspension), and a tow car. I can get there pretty easily from work but the earliest I can get there would be about 6ish. Can the bike stand up or would it be on its side?
Update for everyone.
Mari & Dan have volunteered to help as they have a van. Currently waiting for confirmation that a, I have permission to take the bike and b, the van will be available.
I believe the permission thing will be nothing more than a phone call to the required person informing them of the pick up.
So just waiting for confirmation on the van availability.
I am also looking at the possibility of getting the deadline extended to the weekend. If this is possible it would probably help everyone out.
The place shuts at 12.30 on Saturday and is not open on Sunday, so if it were to be delayed until then, I'd be looking for help Sat morning. Andy, if I could list you down as a TSB, would that be OK? Would you be available at the weekend if needed? The bike has no front end attached and looking at the photos of it, it is currently lying on it's side. I see no reason why we could not sit it up right though. All it would take is a bit of manpower. So long as we have that, I can't see any issues.

Definately available to help lift on Sat morning.

Don't know what a TSB is but it sounds OK!
Yeah... I can be available Satdee morning and if your desperate I could leave early from work if it has to be during the week.
If its on its side it would be easier anyway as it can't fall anywhere - just need to double check that the trailer is wide enough.

TSB = Technical Stand By.
OK So we have an update.
In the first instance it is possible to delay the pick up until Sat if required (but I have an opticians appointment which I will re-arrange if I need to). Also I have been given the contact details of the person who can authorise the release of the bike. So once I have confirmation of transport I will make the call. I have to make that call no later than Thursday as that person will not be contactable after then.

By the looks of your avatar you need to prioritise that opticians appointment buddy!

I've got broken toes so I can't lift anything. I don't have a van either but I can stand around and look dodgy if you like.

Excellent idea Dan. I'm sure you would do a sterling job of it too.
Update.
The van will be available on Wednesday. I will phone both the people I need to tomorrow and make sure I am clear to take it.
I'm going to arrange for the pick up to be at 5pm. It'll obviously make it easier if we have a few hands to help shift it at either end. So anyone that can make it, I would be most appreciative.

Wednesday is the worst day for me as I've got a busy day at work. However if everything goes swimmingly I might be able to make it but can't promise anything. If you could pm me the postcode of the place and your number then I can give you a bell if I can make it. Whats the manpower situation at pick up and drop off, do you need help at both?

I'll send you a PM shortly.
At the moment It's Dan with the van, myself and Phil. Not sure if Mari will be there as well, but she's a girl, what use is she going to be?
Mari, I was joking honestly.

I might be able to be there at 5. I'll contact Phil if my work seems to be freeing up.
Tried to contact again today but still got voice mail. I'll let you all know by 3pm if I haven't managed to get the bike released.

Hi Dan.
Still trying to get the bike released. I shall keep all informed.
OK. Have now established contact and spoken to the required person. I am assured bike will be released and the recovery company are being informed it is being picked up at 5pm.
I will give the recovery company another call later on to confirm the release and that they are expecting me.

Well there will be Me, Dan, Phil & Mari. Can three blokes pick up an R6 and lug it into the back of a van? I would have thought so.

Well I can make it. I came in at 6.30 this morning and have been a busy bunny so I will be outta here by 3pm.
Only one condition is I need to be in Banbury by 7.30pm but I 'd imagine it won't take that long.
Phil, are you alright getting there or do you want a lift? I can pick you up as I pass through Oxford.
Everything is now in place. 5pm pick up.

I'm alright cheers man. I've got the bike with me at work so I can head streight off at 4:15ish to be there in pleanty of time.
All, I am so sorry this went wrong. I specifically asked and confirmed three different people regarding any payment for the release of the bike. I was told by all (including the recovery garage) there was no payment required.
Personally I think either the bloke there or the company itself were trying a fast one.
It'll get resolved hopefully tomorrow. Once I know it's all been resolved, I'll ask for help again.
Again, sorry for the cluster f'ck today. Seriously pee'd off.

No worries chap! Rememeber your dealing with three of the biggest robbing b*stads around - garages/wreckers, the police and the biggest of them all.....insurance companies!!!!
Update:
Issue has been resolved (allegedly). Just received email telling me recovery company has been informed of the errors of their ways. Question is, how soon can we get this set up again?
Oh and I will ring the recovery company again to confirm this.
Tonight?
Tomorrow?
Sorry to ask you for your help again. I guess I am reliant on either Mari/Dan or Andy.

I can lift stuff on Friday night or Sat morning. Sat morning would be better though.
I have now confirmed AGAIN with the recovery company that no costs are involved when picking the bike up.
So I just need to go back to my original request AGAIN and ask if there is anyone that can help with the transport issue.
Thanks.

What a bunch of idiots! They should pay you compensation in all seriousness, as they cost several people hours of time and petrol. grrr.
Again, I can't really help unless you desperately need me.

We can't do tomorrow or the weekend as have some friends over :(
If Andy can't help for weekend, we'll have to do one day next week??
OK it looks as though this week and the weekend is not going to work for anyone.
Is it possible to work something out early next week? I really need to get the bike moved. If I don't hear anything by Sunday, I'll look into hiring a van or something myself.
Cheers

Sorry for not replying earlier, haven't looked at the .org for a couple of days as I've been busy/getting drunk.
I can be available avec trailer tomorrow morning. Got to be in London by 1pm so if we drop the bike at yours and I can just jump on the M4.
Wotcha reckon?
Andy, thanks.
Everyone else that can come give a hand to hoist the bike into the trailer I would be most thankful.
I have arranged to meet Andy at the recovery depot and 10am. And I have been reassured this time there will be no requests for money.
Anyone available to give a hand?
Cheers
