What have i done (Snapped Vacuum Hose)

I appear to have broken what i think is a vacuum hose. I was checking the rear plug and replacing the air filter. Due to this problem http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=118940


The plug As you can see is rather rich running.

Would i be correct in saying that a slight break in the vacuum hose might have been causing the prevous running problem and is likely to be the cause of my black spark plugs.

As you can guess it currently wont start , the battery is completly flat with me trying to start it , trying to trickle charg it.

Can anyone tell me how i get my bike going again?

isn't that just a joint between two sections of hose? or am I missing the point?
sorry if so heh.
I'd assume being a vacuum it should only deal with negative pressures so that would hold true, just my guess though i'm afraid.

Did the bike have a previous owner, looks like they had a Scottoiler fitted and then removed it by using a piece of tubing inside the vacuum tube to hold it together.

Two options for this, sorry can't help much more I am in a rush to get going...

1) slide the other end on the vacuum hose over and secure with two hose clips (can be bought at any DIY shop)

2) replace the hose.

Has a previous owner had a Scottoiler fitted & just removed the T piece?
Also, a leak in a vacuum pipe would tend to weaken the mixture.

The bike does have a scottoiler but it is on the front carb.

I have bodged the vacuum pipe together with some tape but it sounds as if fuel is not getting to the carbs. It just turns over but doesnt kick in.

If carbs are dry it'll take a while. Try suck on that hose to fill the carbs before running it (the end of the pipe which goes to the fuel tap on the tank)

Black plugs are more likely choke plunger related than this, leaky vacuum system would cause popping, surging, backfiring etc.

Ok that appeared to work it ran for a few seconds then cut out when the battery went flat :-(

So charge or replace the battery? If it's completely flat then the alternator probably won't be able to charge it enough.

Just tried again and got it running. Letting it tick over for a while. Thanks!!

Time for a more permenent fix.

Sadly you where correct Yorkie this did not sort the prevous problem which appears to be a stuck plunger. Strange because it doesnt smell as if is running rich.

That tube will be fine so long as it's a tight fit. Cable ties round it will sort it if it's loose untill you can get hold of a new length of hose.
