Well folks its that time of the year again, Last offical run of the season and the obligatory ice cream:smt026. This is the discussion thread.

============================UPDATED=============== =========

Summary of posts in this thread suggest stick with Tradition so St Andrews it is.

Still require a decision for which ice cream parlour to gift with our custom, there are 2 in st andrews Luvians and http://www.jannettas.co.uk/ (http://www.jannettas.co.uk/)"]Jannettas

Then we've got the decision of dates, the first poll was a dead heat so there is a new option, Vote Here (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=120725)

And finally there's the routes, for this i'd suggest a slight change to previous years, historically its been a mid morning meet (late enough to hopefully avoid ice) a nice wee run, ice cream then everyone shoots off in different directions. Hows about this year, 2 or 3 meeting points (for different folks) obviously with different routes to meet at st andrews at a fixed time for ice cream, then a combined run finishing with coffee (or a haggis supper) before splitting off. This can be finalised and formalised later depending on when and where the ice cream will be partaken and where the majority of folks are coming from.

Well that's the ball rolling, discuss....

Please use this thread for discussion and i'll create polling threads (and link them) and an information only thread for all the details.

Come on floks, get involved.:smt080:smt048

you gotta have randomness - you would worry about me - besides a certain Kitkat IIRC shot me down last year for mentioning largs instead of st andrews. Just getting a quick dig in !!

do the 30th Nov that means you can all chip in and buy me a birthday cake!

I've had a quick look at a couple of possible post ice cream runs, again these are just fledgling ideas.

St Andrews - Cupar - Br O' Earn - Blairgowrie - Br O' Cally - Aberfeldy - *sma glen* - Br O' Allen (haggis supper) or *Killin*

Largs - Gourock - Dunoon (ferry every 20 mins £4) - Inverary - Tyndrum - Lochearnhead - Br O' Allen

Looking for local input into the suitability of these roads and routes taking into account it will be december.

Both of these are about 140 miles so 3.1/2 hrs riding plus stops plus haggis supper, 5 hours to be leaving Br O' Allen after ice cream, they also both provide cut outs for northies (Pitlochry or Tyndrum) who may need to bail early.

Bridge of Allen as an end point isn't set in stone, just thougt it was quite central with good transport links and a decent chippie or sit in eateries if we prefered, but again open to suggestions

For these options to work i'd suggest eating ice cream no later than 1pm that way it may still be light as we reach dinner and only riding home in the dark.

Saturday(s) preferable for me - I could at least stay in Ed/Glas that night then, save me another 80-100 mile run home straight after the rideout.

Location, not bothered - I'm just tagging along for the banter again!

Purely selfish reasons, but got to be worth a shot!

All hail the organising types!

I voted any location because it's really all about the company but being a traditionalist at heart I think we should stick with St Andrews for the end of season run and make Largs our start of season.

If we don't have traditions, why we're no better than foreigners.

Hey KG, you know how you suggest the highlands on the poll....

Well, there's Capaldi's in Brora (google it) but you'd have to be mad to organise a run there in all but the summer months. In December it would be more like soup and a roll run, just aint so catchy, lol.

Oh yeah, and then I googled it and found this!!!!!

As has already been alluded to....we went to Largs in February for the start of season ice cream run so it's back to St. Andrews that get's my vote.

St. Andrews day soes sound rather apt but it looks like we are harder if we go in December :p

Not sure about extending it to a longer run at this time of year.... by the time we all fanny about in St. Andrews it's already getting close to dark

By the way.. You need to do something with those polls as they are already heading down the page and voting does not bring them back up. I nearly missed them.

Not daft just a bit previous. Once dates and locations are finalized I'll post comprehensive times meets and routes. Don't feel you have to wait until then to come out to play though.

quite rightly shot down in poop abby dear. its been st andrews for end of season ice cream run for 7 years. largs is mince in comparison. saying that I am not entitled to an opinion (being a soft southern poof now). the only original crew are tony (probably wont make it as wife due to drop sprog mid november) and careless (could someone hold his hand crossing the road, ice cream gets him all excited ;))

The ice cream run is St Andrews, but the above looks great for the start of season run. I just like rideouts that include ferries. Just feels like you're going further afield!

30th November is top on the poll at the moment. I'd like to keep it that way as it will be my last weekend in Scotland and I'd like to come.....?

Kilted Ginger

think I'll end the location poll as st Andrews looks like a certainty. So all we need now is the date, so if you haven't voted for a date then please do!!!

Once we have a date finalised I'll collate a list of attendees and post meeting points and routes, probably McDs at S. Q'ferry for edinburgers, numb and cauld little chef for weegies and inbetweeners and somewhere for northies with a meet at kinross services for the run up.

If one of the fifers with a better knowledge of the roads over there would like to step up and plan the route from kinross to st A's I'd appreciate it.
I'll wait and see who's going before I tie down the timings and post ice cream run. Think Stuartyboy led the last one I was on but he's otherwise occupied just now.

we tend to take a slightly more meandering route than that, need to give folks the oportunity to get lost, have some pheasants thrown at us by passing landrovers and if I remember correctly the wettest darkest twistieist tree avenued wall lined road in Scotland;)

Strange that Northy, indyphotie as well, that was me earlier in the year, went to the NW200 then did almost no riding up until September there. Just kinda crept up on me even though I love my bikes and riding.

Wonder why it happens

Here is the my first stab at a route !!

My main aim was to get over to some of the nice roads in the East Neuk and have tried to avoid boring roads as much as possible.... which is bit difficult around midway.

Tight and twisty change, but takes out that boring midway section and some interesting scenery over the Lomond hills. Both that road and the one over the hill from Freuchie to Kennoway can get dodgy in winter, but if you don't have too many newbie riders, then that just presents an interesting challenge and something to talk about when you stop.

Nah, been over to see my uncle in Auchmuirbridge plenty times in winter, including last year when I went over under a beautiful clear cold blue sky and back over lying snow (though that might have been in the car)!! Just need to ride according to the conditions! It's perfectly possible, not a road closed to motorbikes situation.

Well folks the votings done and its Saturday 6th December.

Looking at grants route i bow to the fifers superior knowledge, Stuartyboy and Blue flame can hammer out the details detween them. Either way it looks like 90ish minutes riding, so 2 hours including gathering and fag stops.

Therefore I'd suggest a meeting time of 10:30 at Kinross Services and Leaving at 11:00, That will have as scooping icecream at 13:00 and would allow a departure from St Andrews of 14:00 (after photos etc)

This should be early enough for those with other commitments to get home without burning through too many brownie points and also allow those that fancy it time to do a post cream run before it gets too dark.

The voting thread has now morphed into an Attendees (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?p=1687493#post1687493) list so please add your name there and where you stay (roughly) so we can organise pre kinross meeting points etc.

I'm sure i'll be corrected but think the easties tend to meet at the maybury services or the McDonalds at the bridge in s. queensferry.

Westies homebase off the shotts bypass?? or you're more than welcome to meet at mine (denny) i might even manage some lorne rolls (Tiger55 ;))

Inbetweeners, my place or pirnhall services.

Spearies??? no idea but very welcome

The sooner we know who's going and from where the sooner we can get organised..

Stuarty and Blue f, could you please finalise the route with your collective knowledge, and can the birminghamers keep their neb oot ;):smt003
