As you know I am not a big one for modding my bike but I have recently realised that I will be hanging on to my CBR for a while (even if it does end up as a back-up bike) so I am getting the itch to tart it up a little.
So here goes, these are a few things that I am thinking of doing over the next few months.
1 - Puig black double bubble screen - bought
2 - Daytona heated grips - bought
Now for some things that I am thinking of doing:
1 - Proton flushmount front indicators (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7y2z3zUpaY&NR=1)
2 - XenonExpert Hid system
3 - Tripage integrated taillight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljp5o-3afgA)
4 - Knightrider 3rd eye (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2lI-0_1xR0) (purely for the cheese factor, laughs - or maybe not)
5 - Yoshi or akrapovic exhaust (probably will be last on the list as it expensive.
6 - Carbon fibre clutch/engine cover + carbon fibre generator cover (to hide the scratched engine cover
7 - R&G fork sliders
8 - Red reflective rim tape
Comments please.
Don't you have anything more interesting to spend the money on?

I might buy a Tenere just so I can have a tow hook. Cool.

The tail unit light system ainb't legal in the country far as I am aware and it won't pass an mot when it needs to, same as the night rider led not legal either casue its displaying the wrong color light on the bike.
I would buy the race system second hand. I would say the best mod would be the HID lighting unit and the race can. Maybe folk silders, the rest I wouldn't bother with.
Just my thoughts....

Really? Scampers off to google....
Your right (http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps) - HID aftermarket parts are illegal unless you upgrade the whole unit to a EU approved headlamp replacement.
You guys are giving me soo many good reasons not to spend money. This is great! Have got the buying bug and I need to have it whipped outta me.

Thinking that in a few years time I might upgrade to something a bit more meaty and then use the CBR as a backup/track bike.

How about the indicators. I hate those massive ones that hang off the side of the bikea and the flushmounts look much better.

Thats a shame they're illegal cos they work really well and worth every penny. Once you have experienced them you won't care that there illegal as the additional vision and safety will far outweigh any grief you might get from the law. At MOT time its easy and quick to change back to the standard bulbs without removing the rest of the kit.
Check on ebay for cheaper alternatives than those Expert ones.

IMO flushmounts are a bad idea.
I think that in the day they are not that visible to other road users, yes at night everything just lights up on the side when you put the indis on so its ok then. Just my way of looking at it.

for me (and my 2 hour commute to work) it's all about being as visible as possible. That being said I'm not prepared to commit fashion suicide by wearing a Sam Brown belt....
I'd knock the integrated rear light on the head just on the basis that it's not going ot be as visible as a seperate unit. I've following a few bikes through london and nearly tailgated them 'cos I could barely see their funcy tail lights....****s.
With regards the indicators, I'm torn on this one. I like the idea of flush mount on the front, had them on my old SV400s, but I also fitted front facing ones inside the fairing (visible through the faux air intakes). It's not about size though, it's about the brightness. It's all well and good having small indicators but if nobody else can see them then what's the point?? surely fairly small, bright LED winkers are they way forward.
Have just ordered some 100/90w hid upgrade bulbs from ebay for my pointy. They may be illegal but who cares who you 'dazzle'?? I'd rather be seen and annoyingly so than law-abiding and stuck on the front of a Range Rover.
I feel old now. Anyone got any Ovaltine? I may just make myself a mug and go for an afternoon nap....

i've had an 08 CBR600RR all summer as a loan bike from my insurance company and it really is a fantastic bit if kit.
I'm doing 600 miles a week on it, I'm on the bugger for about 12 hours a week just getting to work and back.
I thought it was going to be a real pain in the **** (or back, wrists, neck etc) but it is much more comfortable than my old curvy. I'm 6ft2 and just thought it was gonig t be a nightmare.
I'll be sorry to see if go on Friday. If only I have the money, and if it didn't depreciate like a house in a recession......

That's funny. I had almost the exact same thing with my bike. Someone reversed over me and my SV and they gave me the cbr600rr for 3 months. Got the SV back and just hated it. Felt slow and the suspension was rubbish in comparison.
Long story short - I now have the CBR. The funny thing is that when I had the SV I was always looking and thinking toward my next bike. Now I have the CBR I am just completely content as it ticks every box for what I want.
Jon
PS - prepare for a big shock come Friday. I was in a bad mood for well over a month when I got my SV back.

Quick question - I saw a new/secondhand Yoshi exhaust on ebay for £270 + 20 postage (they are worth £320+postage new) CLICK HERE. (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=150306093876)
The auction ended without any bidders so I contacted the seller to see if he would sell it cheaper and he is offering it for £250 and he will pay postage. Would any of you have reservations about buying this?

A little confused. Is he selling just the end can or the rest of it as well?
KnightRider

My understanding is that he already had an RS5 slip-on but then deceided to buy a full system. The end part of the full system is identical to the slip-on that you can buy seperately. As a result all he has fitted the new downpipes from the full system to the old slip-on (both the end pipes are identical between slip-on and full system.
He therefore has a brand new RS5 slip-on which he is selling.
That's how I read it.

All new pipework from the Yoshi full system but he just left the old RS5 slip-on on the bike as it is identical to the new part.

Have asked the question to the seller to ensure that it is a fully functioning slip/on can that will not require any additional effort to fit. If he comes back positive then I think I might buy it. That will be roughly £100 saved.

For the deal to go through one of you is going to have to trust the other. He doesn't want to send that nice expensive exhaust without first seeing the colour of your money. You don't want to send the money without an insurance of some sort. Direct transfer is quicker than Paypal. There are no fees to pay and it means he'll post it out to you quicker.
Your call. He has 74 feedback all positive. Personally I'd do the direct transfer.

I got 6000k as they are the whitest and brightest of the lights. Above that they become blueish and not as bright, below that there a bit yellowy and again not as bright.
I used them the other night and they are awesome, especially dipped beam. The high beam wasn't as good as I thought it would be, maybe due to the bike reflectors not being a good enough design but its still better then it was originally. They were a bit of hassle to fit as I had to make a bracket to hold the ballasts to hide them in the fairing so I would recommend getting a kit with slim ballasts, and the bike wiring wasn't 'man' enough to take the extra current (unlike my cars wiring which was fine) so I had to run new cables from the battery up to relays which I hid in the nose fairing. As your bike just has one light as main and one as dipped, a kit for yours would be a lot simpler and you might be able to run it through your standard wiring. Next club meet I'll come down on my bike and you can have a look.

Bought some HID lights. Went for the 4300k as they are very bright although not quite as white as yours. My gf is visiting NY in 2 weeks so she will have the pleasure of picking them up and doing all of my christmas shopping :-) .

Question is - guess I need to tell my insurance company that I have a non-legal exhaust on the bike. Views?
Disclose it. It's a material fact. If they get shirty, ring round and find another insurer that doesn't give a monkeys - I vaguely recall Highway being one who didn't care, years ago.
I saw you spying the can I have now in my possession. I would have been more than happy to have let you have it. Still. Very nice indeed.
As Ogden said. Insurance companies really dont care much about exhausts.

As Ogden said. Insurance companies really dont care much about exhausts.
Until I used Carole Nash and ebike I could not have any non-standard mods (according to the insurers I used). Check your T&C's, a lot of them will not allow any mods at all (Bennetts were one I had issues with). It never stopped me buying mods they just were never disclosed. ;) I also had no issues claiming even with the mods as they ended up being cheaper to replace (end can being a prime example).
There are two reasons an insurance company might get stroppy about an undisclosed exhaust:
- attractiveness to thieves (regardless of cash value)
- change in engine performance
In either case, if the presence of an undisclosed modification could be related to a claim, it gives the insurer scope to wriggle out. In reality they may well not do - I had a set of ZX6R four-pot calipers on my 7R rather than the OE six-pots, but no issue was made of it - but generally I'd disclose any mods unless you have a good reason not to.
