There is a bit of ice on the cars this morning and this thing tells me it's -2 out there but i reckon it should soon clear up.

It'll take me so long to get all 17 layers of gear on I'm going whatever the road conditions!

Blue Flame
06-12-08, 08:36 AM
Personally I think that this is a plan B day !!. My concern for today is the temp is not due to rise above 2 degrees, lesser roads will not have been treated and some sections that are in the shadows won't get any sun & will still have ice on them all day.

I reckon we should go for the safer main road routes and have a wee pit stop at Cupar Motorcycles.

combatfred

I'm iced in, but I've not been on the bike for 2 weeks, so F**K IT.

Currently speed eating some toast then I'm off.

It's a "main roads" day for me.

DEFINATELY!!!

I'm pretty much iced in as well, but im dressed and the bikes loaded so im going, will have to walk the bike down to main road i think (30 mins) so i'm leaving in the next 2.

Glasgow lads, if i'm not at cumbernauld by 9:45 LEAVE, if i'm not going to make it there in time i'll get you at the slip road onto the motorway at Denny. (I'm assuming were going motorway from cumberbauld to kincardine bridge) Youll see me as you come down the hill. Worst case scenario if i'm not there keep going i'll get you at kinross....[-o<

Hope -Ralph- enjoyed his ice cream.

I did enjoy my ice cream very much. :)
KG - thanks mate!

Glad you all had a good day, wish I could have been there, but thinking I couldn't make it anyway I stayed in B'ham an extra day, so it would have meant leaving at 4:30 am to meet at Kinross in time. Also my wife wasn't happy about me sitting on a bike given that I couldn't walk straight after 5 hours sat in the car.

Jilly - thanks for the offer of a shot on your bike. :notworthy:

The day...

09:00 pushed bike down icy country lane for 20 minutes to reach salted roads then quick blast to numb and cauld to meet the weegies.

09:45 nice early morning toodle to kinross, Gerbrox leading the way over the new Kincardine bridge, brief interlope of a bandit to cause confusion, avoid, the shadows they're still icy:twisted:, and into the Burgerking carpark (ice rink) to find Kate sitting waiting:mrgreen:

10:45, Blue Flame and Peterco arrive and we set out for St Andrews, the sun shining, crisp clear blue sky, sub zero temps.

11:45 Arrive at Cupar Suzuki without incident and find Bibio parked up and waiting, take advantage of their free tea and coffee machine and "facilities", ooh and aah at the shiny toys....
Tiger55-- Vstrom, Blue Flame-- Ducati Black something 749 i think, Combatfred -- White (what else) GXR, Stramasher -- Bergman 400:cheers:;)

12:30 Quick blast (roads a bit clearer now) to St Andrews to await the arrival of the spearies then up to Jannettas for some well deserved ice cream. Down to the front for some photo oportunities:takeabow:

14:30 ish, Heading home, Spearies first lead as usual by Ad53ggz (last to arrive) then the rest in procession to Kinross before heading our seperate ways. Winter sun sitting about 2 inches above the horizon made for some interesting visual challanges[-o<, Peterco 30 yds ahead vanishes, what to do cant see anything, cant slow down as Kate is 30yds behind and by now i've vanished, ah well just keep going, who needs to see anyway.

16:00 Dropped in on -Ralph- with his ice cream , to inspect the damage and prod his sore ribs, not pretty but not as bad as i was expecting, the bike wasn't too clever either. Lucky boy me thinks:smt051

18:00 head home, -Ralphs- Street now pure white and as much traction as teflon tires, cold, dark but dry, wait why's my visor getting wet, oh its ok its not water its ice???

Two cages decided they wanted to know each other better so road closed and diverted through coatbridge, airdrie and cumbernauld, Flashy orange light on dash, now solid, should make it home, bloody freezing.

Take the farm track as its too rough to be slidey, 100yds of skating rink then home, garage, cup of tea, clean her tomorrow. pillion seat and boots entirely iced up??? didnt think it was that cold.

Great day thanks to all who went, as usual its the folks rather than the ride that makes it special. Thanks again...:smt040 Roll on Largs:mrgreen:

Well there's nothing I can usefully add to these fine artsy fartys pictures (great lunge phot by the way KG!) but here's my 2p worth anyway.

Aforementioned traction free Kinross car park. Don't look too inviting does it? This is where my bike conked out for the first time. (Rule: If nobody falls of on an Ecosse run my SV must malfunction in lieu)

Is that really St Andrews? Looks more like Marbella!. Investigated indicator failure here.

KG's bunnet is visible from the International Space Station. Fact.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r161/tigerboz55/Ice%20Cream%20Run%20Dec%2008/DSC01088.jpg

Difficult to claim that you are rock hard for being out in freezing conditions when the beach is mobbed with holidaymakers!

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r161/tigerboz55/Ice%20Cream%20Run%20Dec%2008/DSC01090.jpg

All good fun it was too. Well, up until about 4pm and then the last 45 minutes home were a frozen, bladder stretching misery, but musn't grumble. Tablet ice cream was indeed of the usual standard, as was the Cupar coffee (but it's free :)) and I very much liked Gerbrox's call to go for a beer on the way home, even though I wimped out. Next time.

Tried to make love to Busa Boy's tail light on the M90 because it was literally the only thing I could see. And it was getting closer much quicker than my numb brain could deal with. Also had the privilege of being behind him on the M73 when he made the jump to light speed!

Fresh meat for the grinder - Bibio, Soaralba, Kate - nice to meet you. Have to be Largs for you Laura..

Not the same without you - Jillyburd, Shonadoll, Northy, Stuarty, Careless, TonyB, Kit Kat, Endellion, Apollo, OYB...ocht you know who you are... See all of you in Largs too hopefully.

And thanks to KG for herding the cats on this occasion.

Sorry chaps/chappettes...

I've been working in London a lot recently so not been on. Got home yesterday to discover south queensferry shut from one end to the next and I couldn't get out due to a huge bouncy castle blocking the drive. There is a street fair for the annual christmas lights. Looks like you managed fine without me ;)

That is the best excuse ever. "Bouncy castle in drive". I'll remember that!

(slight derail, but here's one of my pics from saturday... The reservoir had a sheet of ice about half inch thick over most of it. At this point, i was thinking "Seriously, **** motorbikes, they'll probably all be dead by now"

It could have been my wife out shopping, spending all my money while I am away. She would have been in St Andrews yesterday.

Gutted I missed this and good choice Janettas it has great ice cream.

Maybe next year I can try and sort out a Bar-b-q at Leuchars Bike club for you all but when the weather is better.

Glad everyone got home safely.

Thanks for your company guys & girl.

Temps a bit too extreme for my poor old fingers and toes. 2 pairs of socks
and heated grips next time.

The ice cream was excellent. Just what I needed to lower my core
temperature even further!!! Cheers to Tiger for introducing me to the
Cookie Dough / Tablet combo cone. Yummy.

St Andrews was stunning with not a cloud to be seen.

The ride home was a bit iffy. I could see next to nothing most of the time
and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on a couple of occasions. Tiger - I know you
were behind me on 1 of those "oh f**k I'm blind" moments. Sorry mate!!

Oh, and I thought I'd taken the M73 alone, so decided to let the
mothership stretch her legs a bit. Oops.

Anyway, got home and hosed the bike down while Mrs Combatfred ran me
a monkey bath. I lay in the bath for ages with a couple of whiskies for
company. Fantastic!!

A nice wee end to my biking season.

Best Christmas wishes to you all and I'll see you in the New Year.

I guessed after waiting for you guys at Crowwood for 10mins that you'd taken the M73!!!

The low sun made it very exciting on the A91, thankfully the SV brake lights are always on cos that the only thing I could see I was prying that Stremasher didn't over take anyone!!!

Maybe grab a pint next time when it gets warmer?
