View Full Version : Your best .org moment

Inspired by the "nice things" thread- what's been your defining .org moment? (you may choose a runner up)

For me... the Glencoe Massacre this year, specifically the bit on the friday evening, when just the locals had turned up and there were only about 8 of us there, and the weather was looking bad... Getting a wee bit nervous... Then, I hear some bikes. Then some more bikes. Then suddenly the entire southern ride-in came down the road en-masse, absolutely beautiful sight, I must have looked like an idiot with the big grin on my face just thinking "I did this". Not just an .org highlight that. The whole weekend was great but that one moment was just something else. Then Fizzwheel pulled up and produced my long-lost AR08 disco glass from his tankbag

(runner up was AR07, the rideout was OK but the ****-up in the rain was AWESOME, totally unforgettable. I've still never worked out how I got all that mud inside my waterproofs. All the ARs have been good but AR07 was a perfect storm)

As what he said...

BBQ in a storm, timed to perfection... 3.2.1. everyone under the gazeebo...

top ****up... from what I can remember.
and the "Pug of Love" car stop...

Sitting on my front drive with my bike in pieces and me in pieces as I can't fix it, so I post the question on here and within seconds several .org members offering invaluable help. Bike was fixed within half an hour and I was well chuffed!
So much knowledge on this forum its incredible.

I think mine is obvious. After my near fatal in 2004, the mind boggling generosity of all the .org members at the time. They helped not just me, but my whole family. I will never ever be able to thank everyone enough. They helped us overcome so much. The accident, the loss of income, the shock, the donated parts from so many people to get my bike back on the road. The talks and chats and help and advice not just for me but for Jo as well. The extra special friends that did so much for us.

The people that worked on my bike and put it back together. The person that took me for my first rider afterwards. The person that came from so far at a drop of a hat and looked after Jo so well during those dodgy first few days in hospital. The person that continuously looked out for me and my family even after the accident and still looks out for us now.

So that whole period is the most defining .org moment for me.

For me it was a quiet pint in Ullapool at the end of a great days ride from Fort William via Skye. Dicky Ticker brought the Essex Lounge up to John O'Groats and the three days I joined them for were among the best of my 20 odd biking years.

This particular day was grey and then the sun came out and then it was cloudy and then it belted down with rain and then the sun came out again! The scenery, the roads (A890!!), the weather, the bikes, the people, just wonderful. Thanks Org.

Anyway, here's me and Baldy Man having aforementioned quiet pint...

I think perhaps a magic moment for me was on NW3, It was so bloody dark up the hills to Llanberis, I lost it, couldn't see (night vision really bad and misted visor) I pulled over and Jamesunhill stopped too, I said i serious probs I was going to have to ride without my specs his face was a look of sheeer horror, then BluePete came back. He rode in front of me,Iwas literally guided in by Petes rear lights and James behind reeeeally slow, very patient the pair of em............
at one moment I looked up the mountain side and saw all the SV lights going up, it was magical. The ride down in the morning was so much better..wa frothing at the mouth in delight, and missed the picture stop for laughing so much

Another, was up to the Ecosse..friday teatime through Glasgow standing traffic is a nightmare, but for 12 southerners its a piece of cake, the cars part like moses waves:mrgreen:, Northwinds face was beeming when us lot turned up, it is indeed a good feeling when you turn up en masse:cool:

I have 2.5 best .org moments, simply because I can't choose between them.....so in chronological order.....

1. Having just passed my test a couple of months and only taken Lily as pillion once or twice I agreed to meet Pete & Lissa for a little "bimble". Having never met them before, we met up at Malvern and admired the "Bazooka". The I began to blindly follow them all the way to Llandovery and back. Lets just say....I kept up with them most of the way. I have never felt so sick / nervous / happy in one go before and was way out of my comfort zone......but, I think I learnt more in that one day than every day before it put together.

2. AR08 - First AR and was brilliant, spent the majority of it clutching a 4 litre bottle of cider......the ride was amazing, the peeps were amazing and even though it rained I loved every minute.....this leads me to my 2.5.....

2.5 At the AR08, I have never laughed so much due to one man.....that man.....HOVIS....for me he was the epitome of the AR and summed up everything that was amazing about it. Firstly the sitting up sleeping, secondly.....the now infamous rocking horse moment and the state he was in on the Sunday.

1. The devious planning involved in getting me out of a tent and across a field in my pants, chuckling all the way.

2. The offers of help and concern when I flipped my bike ontop of myself travelling to work one day.

3. I'm sure there is more, I just need to think.

1. AR08, my first meeting with you rowdy lot. Field packed, us knackered after all that motorway riding and Fizz comes over with cans of beer, mindreader! Night steadily got better and better, I met so many great people that night and the one to follow. Despite not going on the rideout, that handful of us in the field had a fab time just sat about, even got a trip to the supermarket in Jo's (MrsApe) minibus :D

2. SV Ecosse, loved every single minute, just being out with SO MANY bikes was a truly fantastic feeling, 5 days of solid riding and my back has never felt the same since :D

The .org is the bees knees, the mutts doodahs and the cat's whiskers ;), great guys the lot of ya :grouphug:

My fav .org moment is Jester and Spiderman pursauding me, over breakfast in little chef, to come on the rideout at AR08.

Thanks guys, I had the best day's riding of my life, nothing before and nothing since has generated as much confidence and belief in my riding ability than that rideout.

My first proper rideout round wales. Turning up at Morrisons at Cribbs causeway and meeting Dr Rich, Tee Jay and being soaked through already and being welcomed like an old friend.

The first rideout I organised.

Every Poole Quay meet. The banter is brilliant.

North South 2006 the first big ride on my GSXR I'll never forget that weekend. It was awesome.

AR08, alot of stress and hassle, but worth it for the smiles and thank you's we all got.

The Glencoe Massacre. I'm really glad I made the effort to ride all that way, another awesome weekend.

I continue to be surprised how I can turn up somewhere and meet new people for the first time and they feel like old friends.

Mine was on the way to AR08. I don't like high bridges - and we had to cross the M48 Severn Bridge from Cwmbran towards Bristol. I was riding in with the Border Patrol peeps and to give me confidence they formed a human cage around me so I didn't even think that we were so high above the water. Really cool, and hugely appreciated.

The 'band-of-brothers' esque, glorious two-fingered salute to the Great British Weather that was last month's Rideout of the Stuartyboy.

Riding over the Scottish Mountains, through some of the worst weather conditions I've seen, let alone been out in, gale force winds, rain like standing in front of a fire hose, sleet etc....

Watching the 2 bikes in front riding at 45 degree leans, just to go in a straight line, following suit, then watching the 4 behind in my mirrors doing exactly the same thing, put a grin on my face like had never been there before!

I can't narrow this down to just one:D

The AR08 rideout. The incredible feeling of pride to be a part of that, tinged with sadness as that weekend proved to be the final outing of my beloved SV.

The Glencoe Massacre, diesel incident and all.

Hardy Bikers, and the amazing ride in the dark.

All of the NW weekends.

Seeing new riders growing in confidence the more rideouts they attend.

The banter, p*s-taking and great humour that is there at every event.

2 - AR08

3 - Glencoe Massacre

2 and 3 contributed hugely to my best biking year ever (those two events and Kwak and Shells drunkenness at Oulton Park BSB :))

All my best .org moments can be put under the heading of 'WELCOME'

From my first, difficult post (see BigApe's post about his off) when Greg immediately extended the hand of friendship, to the first AR I went to on my own, to each time I turn up at Soho, to the amazing cold can of lager and puck at last year's AR and every time someone new to the site introduces themselves. And loads more...

The .org is a very welcoming community to be a part of.

I had a dream last night that Quiff Richard came down to Barry Island as part of a tour of Wales he was doing as a holiday. He was on a black litre Triumph daytona, a bit like Lozzo's one. We had a natter and some chips then went our seperate ways, it was a surprisingly "normal" dream.

I thought this morning I missed something out. When I came off Dave a couple of months back, I knackered my lid, so it was inevitable I'd have to get another pretty quick. So, I put a post up in the massive that I was being a scardy cat and had to go to Squires on my own
Melody rang me up and said 'Hi Lou, i'll try and get my insurance sorted out today as its run out, I've been on nights, but if you give me and hour or so to sort it, I'll come with you to get a new lid':kiss:

At that moment, I knew I had a really good friend, and also the org as a whole has a whole boat load of good peeps that help when all is crap.

Mel and I went to Squires and got a new lid...and Dave stayed in the shed sulking while Suzy went out in the sun, and we had ice cream ....mmmmmmm

Not only that, but Rictus was taking his son to Preston uni, and he came over to my house with 'the lesser spotted Mrs Rictus' and delivered a nice new gear lever. We had a really cool afternoon chatting......the YCs came over, and I can say I felt very honoured for meeting Mrs Rictus, as I know very few ever have, eventhose that are regular visitors at thier house
