on way home from work, about 5.30pm....honda crv pulls out in front of me from a side street to my right, i swerve around it as road was clear on other side rather than slam on brakes and fly down the gears...usually this would be problem avoided...but no...crv then turns immediatly right into a pub carpark...no indication...bet he didnt even check his mirrors....smash...

snapped mirror....bent crash bung (not bent as such but think it was a bit loose and slipped on the bolt)

not sure what its called....but the footrest on the gear pedal side has snapped off...so the foot rest, gear change pedal are hanging down on the floor...thats about it for the damage bar a few scratches so nothing to major...i have pics but bit hard to sort it out with one hand atm so will post soon so i can find what the part is i need!!

just got back from A&E, have a fractured radial head (elbow), hurts a bit, gotta go to orthopedic place tomorrow to have pins put in and cast done...bit gutted as i would have got a nice new hire bike tomorrow from the insurance company  and the sv's the only "big" bike ive ridden so wud have been cool to try something else:mrgreen:

even more gutted as was stubbying my can this weekend got all the tools i need etc and itll have to wait now:(

anywhoo...apart from the elbow im alright, dosed up on painkillers, bike should be easy enough to fix so all in all could have been a lot worse.

**** mate. GWS. I work in an Orthopaedic theatre. Fractured radial heads are quite rare, and a bit of a pain to fix. The Olecranon (elbow end of Ulna) is usually more prone to breaking. Hopefully it's quite a simple fracture and you'll be back on the SV in a month or two.
At least it'll give you plenty of time to stubby the can. Maybe santa will come early and you can get the lowers sorted too!

yea very lucky could have been much worse, will be slamming on brakes if anything like that happens again!

have a witness, an older lady was driving behind me, she saw the whole thing and comfirmed what i said above. very nice she was too, my bike is in her garage now, she was on her way home, she lives next door to the pub!!

the car was insured, bloke was apologetic and wheeled my bike to the womans garage as i couldt lift/push it.

paiste1 - just suggested to the mrs that santa could come early - on ur bike was the reply!! think shes being funnylol!!

Mate, if you need any help with the bike just give the Mofos a shout. There's plenty of us about. Sounds like you got away quite lightly (thankfully). You're the third Brizzle downer now. First was Cuffy, then Alex (Xan173) and now you. Its quite an exclusive club, but NOT one I'm aiming to join!!! GWS dude.

Get well soon mate.

I had a student Mountain biker a couple of years ago who fell off while Free Riding and broke her elbow. She cried a bit, but it healed really fast and she was back on her bike and riding just as badly again in a few weeks.

Hope you get the bike fixed soon, maybe if the insurance goes through quick enough you could buy those expensive bits you always wanted.

thanks for all the messages guys, very much appreciated :smt008

just got back from orthopedic clinic..no pins or cast required yet, they took 7ml of blood out the elbow to ease it up a bit then needled some local anesthetic in there.

just a sling for now as they want me to try and move it as much as i can, go back in 12 days have xray once the tissue trauma has gone down an reassess it, doc talked of possibly shaving the bone at that point, but hopefully wont be needed.

2 weeks off work, i bloody hate jeremy kyle too!!!

waiting for a call from fourth dimension to talk abt the bike. im insured via bennets who so far have been v.helpful.

wont get my hopes up about compo but would be nice! just a shame they dont stll make curvy's!!!

for now im just thankful it wasnt a huge crash and my son still has his dad.

thanks again for all the messages...ill still br floating around the forum while recovering just bear with me as it takes aaaaaages to type with my left hand..

4th Dimension in London are the guys doing my bike.......is that the place you mean? Are you going through Helphire? If so, my experiences have been Ok-ish, but they do seem to be extremely slow - but its in their interest as the longer they take the more money they make from the other parties insurance. Hope you get it sorted quick though.

4th D were fantastic with my stolen bike claim. A guy called Andy dealt with my claim and I managed to talk him into giving me more than the bike was insured for ( I under insured it) he pointed out they were only obliged to pay the market value or the amount I had on the policy whichever is lower, but was sympathetic to the fact I had under insured it and gave me an extra £300, it was recovered after a minor accident and I even got it back for £280 so scored there too.
It took 3 weeks for everything to get sorted for me, then another 10 days to get the check.

i had nothing but grief last year dealing with helphire after a car smash, don't want to put offence towards anyone you know working there but the whole company is a total joke. make sure you document carefully every conversation you have with them, keep copies of all paperwork sent and recieved etc.
took them almost a month to appoint a solicitor, and two months to get a hire car after weeks of them lying and backtracking. i've heard so many other stories about them, i wish you good luck dude

its cool no offence taken at all i just asked me mate for a bit of advice...

im not using help hire anyways

i recieved a letter this morning from minster law saying they had been appointed as my solicitors so thats good and quick.

it would have been BLD (bikers legal defence) that sorted my hire bike and other bits, i spoke with BLD on the night of the accident, who also called me the day after and were very good,
i also had a call from bennets asking how BLD had been etc as bennets have only recently started using them. so maybe bennets swtched from HH to BLD
