Umh... I'm finding myself less inclined to donate to the big charities now I think I am suffering from the extensive "make you feel guilty" advertising that a lot of them use.
Plowise is there a local charity near you or a charity / group that your money would make a difference to that you could see where your money had gone.
I raised money a while ago for the Neo Natal Unit in Taunton, got a very nice letter back saying thank you and what they were putting the money towards ( an incubator and a feeding machine )
It was nice to know that money had gone on something tenable rather than just into a pot if that makes sense...

Yep. I am vastly more inclined to give to local charities for this reason.

Charities are a very personal thing which often depends on circumstances that may have surrounded your life or those close to you. Having had major heart surgery and being arthritic I donate to both but I am also a big supporter of Essex Air Ambulance
[Best to hedge my bets]. My favourite local charity is our local childrens hospice, which gets regular donations and to see the smile on a kids face who you know is terminally ill is such a reward.
It is surprising the percentage of charitable donations that go to animals as against life threatening ailments

I think the fact that animal charities not being government funded has a lot to do with it.

What charities are government funded,I was always under the impression that it was the research that was funded? Donated to or given grants isnt the same as funded
If I am wrong I stand corrected

For human disease there's NHS, drugs company research etc it's not just the charities alone. That's just my take on why more money is given to the animal charities. Also don't forget animals are all cute and fluffy.

They looked after my Mum for 6months until she passed on. Amazing place with amazing people that work there.
