I voted keithd.

I suppose it's polite to eat at the same pace, but it's also good that the food was liked enough to be wolfed down so quickly.

No, that's not an invite. :)

Did you wear any rain gear with that lot around you ?

And Wideboy .... did you lick the plate afterwards ? :D

If it's at home I don't mind so much and would offer seconds. If we were out, I would (especially as some waiting staff have no sense of etiquette and snatch the plate away as soon as you've finsihed, leaving one person with an empty place, and the other feeling under pressure to eat up)

Oh and in response to your question Gav, I'm a slow eater anyway so I've got used to it  As has been said already, I'd probably offer you seconds if there was enough and would be flattered if I was the one who cooked it :D

Yeah but no but ....... what Wideboy isn`t telling you is that the family were saying Grace at the time and when they unclapsed their hands and opening their eyes after the "Amens" , Wideboy was licking the plate across the table like a Dog :D

"Myum Myum MYuuuuuum...........................What ?"

+1.

I'd only be offended if you got up and left the table while I was still eating.

YC wolfs stuff down and I don't even try to keep up  If he didn't then I'd know something was up with the food :D

Depends on what the setting was, after all if it was a romantic evening, I would hardly want you yumming it up dead quick before we got the chance for some footsie under the table.

Then as you burp during the snogging, I would be greatly put off as you puff out my cheeks with meaty goodness.

In conclusion, it is good manners to be polite when invited out to dinner, eat slowly, enjoy the flavours and try not to regurgitate food during tonsil hockey!

Hacks me off when people comment on how quick I eat. I can eat slower, but if I focus on that, I'm thinking about (and consequently, enjoying) the food less. My eating fast doesn't hurt them at all whereas people eating overly slowly does keep everyone else at the table longer than is necessary.

Doesnt matter how quickly/slowly you eat.

Although people do comment on my eating sometimes and say "wow you ate that quick..!" really annoys me when they do that because I dont think I eat that quick.

The extremely slow eaters bug me the most....one of my friends took an hour to eat a muffin. an hour!!! How is that possible?? (and no she doesnt have an eating disorder).

I've had a main in a restaurant overcooked before now, because of someone in our group taking too long to eat their starter. Oddly enough, it seems to be a faux pas to complain about someone eating too slowly, whereas it's okay to comment on them eating too quick. As you say, people who just push food around for an hour without eating it are infuriating.

Wouldn't bother me. I had two lads who would descend on the dinner table like locusts, scoff everything down in a few seconds, scoff seconds almost as fast, then ask what was for dessert:D
