View Full Version : Why is the .org such a (usually) friendly place?

I've recently got rid of my SV and bought a ZX-7R, but I'm staying put here because of all my friends, particularly in the TVSF. I've signed up to redmokey.com which is the ZXR owners forum and my god, there are some real morons posting. Yes, there is some very handy technical info and I'm sure pleanty of the people on it are cool, but the general vibe on the site is just terrible. I did the usual thing of introducing myself in the general section and not one person has bothered to say hello so far. They are all too busy being really offensive to each other (there is no swear filter) and just sl*gging each others respective countries off. It seriously reminded me of a bunch of little kids. I know we get the odd tiff on here but generally the vibe is pretty chilled and accepting. SO....

Is it the sort of people who choose to ride an SV that makes this site such a nice place? What do you lot think? Maybe people who wouldn't be seen dead on an SV are a little insecure and feel the need to criticise others - just playing devils advocate here??? google it and take a look at some of the threads - I really couldn't believe it!

I'm so glad I found .org cos I think if I'd have found one of these other forums first, i'd never have bothered going back.

I agree Hun, Org is great. It's certainly the friendliest and nicest site we've been on, that's why we're not leaving. Our mates are here.

We have joined a Ducati site, and to be fair, it's also friendly. I think those who did the Rutland Ring rideout would agree that the Ducatisti guys and gal who joined us were a nice bunch.

That being said, we will still probably do most of our riding with Org, both day trips and weekends away:D

It is unusually friendly for a bike forum. I think it is because of the type of bike the sv is.

I disagree there.

I bought the SV for a simple reason. Finances. That's the sole reason I was looking at getting a bigger bike anyhow.

As for why the .Org is a nice place, well, sods law. :) If everywhere else is terrible, there has to be somewhere for the decent folk to gravitate towards.

I like coming here, but I also like going here (http://www.b3ta.com/).

One place is nice and polite and civilised and the other is frankly rather rude!

I like to switch between them as the day passes.so I get my fix of polite, caring chat on the SV site and then I pop over to the other for my Filth.

I love you SV650.org, you bring sanity into my life...

No it's not the sole reason but I think it definitely influences it. You don't get many of the power ranger speed freaks on here

I'll happily sit in the minority then. :) Love riding more powerful bikes than the SV, and always looking for something with a bit more grunt at the right price. :)

Well the only reason I really ever came on here was cos YC thought it would be a good idea, plus he wouldn't stop going on about it so thought I'd come and see for myself

Really glad I did, I've met some wonderful people, and the .org makes me laugh. A lot. I'm also picking little bits of bikey info here and there, most of it goes in one ear and out the other mind, but I do try and it's all interesting on first read, tis just whether or not it stays in

I have no reason and no wish to go elsewhere, the .org's fab!

One of the reasons is the U rating. I find it irritating at times, to be sure. But the fact that you cannot use certain words means that argument tends to be a bit more civilised.

True what you say about the US sites....
Sportbikes in the US have been taken over by chav's, racer wannabe's and internet losers who do nothing but whine and b**** constantly.

The lack of US riders here is one reason this forum is so good!

I happened upon this place whilest looking for curvy aftermarket parts which are now hard to find in the USA. ...and it's just too nice to leave.

Hope to pop over for a visit and a rideout oneday.

+1 on that Ed.

Also if you tend to have too exterme a view on something it will be edited by the mods too endevour to keep the peace.

Must admit I like this place the most, some of you lot make me laugh and I find the humour at my level....yes that low!!!

I recently joined the KTM forum lot, mainly for any technical advice on the superduke, but I did notice that the banter is not as cool. It may be just a case of 'better the devil you know.....'.

Now that wor lass has the SV I will try and get her on here too, she must have a sick mind too (just look at her bloke: ) ).

My view......its the people........simple as. All the regulars are a laugh and polite (ish!!!!!) and have fun......because of this (most) of the org follows suit....In my view the org would make for a very freindly, organised government!!!! lol......Who's for Prime Minister then?

there are some of the cleverest people on here i've encountered in my (currently) gay life. some of them are too clever by half and baffle me with their words of wisdom and actual fact.

but on the whole it's me that makes this place what it is.

I think that is a big part of it...

People here know the SV isnt a posing bike so we generally just get on with it.

I think this also has bearing. No offence to the better off but they tend to try and lord it over other's. We tend not to get that here because no one really cares because we are happy with what we got.

I agree Keithd you are a leg-end. You win more polls that any one or thing else.

I got to say the other forum im on isnt too bad. The AF1 aprilia forums... well I say that, the Falco section is good, very similar to here (but with no filters). I think for similar reason, its a nice bike thats cheap and has nothing to prove as the people who ride them know they are good and love them. The RSV sections can be a little bitchy at times though, tuono isnt too bad. Ha ha goes to show what sort of people ride what sort of bike.

I dunno, i guess when alot of people joined they are generaly quite new to the whole biking thing (alot of posts start "hello, im new, just picked up my first big bike - an sv650" etc), so i guess people won't go about slagging off and putting down people who are just wanting a bit of help. I think the encouragment to get off the internet and meet people in real actual life helps too...its one thing having an internet war of words, its another thing meeting the person face to face and discovering they are a foot taller than you and 200 times the muscle mass

I think Greek is right as well about the whol showing off thing. What people do show of is generally well received (tidy fork conversions and stuff) because at the end of the day, we all know that the SV is a humble little bike in whatever form and with the right rider, can be used to show up "better" bikes (step forward blue_sv650s). Mind you, i still get some jibes for my topbox but stfu :smt019 :D

long live the .org!!!

I attribute it largely to the real-world presence of most posters. Most people on here know and ride with at least one other person from the board on occassion. People are less likely to get mouthy, or play the "internet tough guy" if they think there's a chance it'll result in them picking up teeth in real life. :)

Take a trip to Visor Down. That place is full of absolute winkers. There maybe the odd one or two helpful chaps but most seem like R1 riding weekend warriors and unless you ride at 186mph everywhere you're just not cool enough. Long live the .org!!! :)

One other friendly bike place I've found is Throttle Monkey, a track day forum that's actually suprisingly friendly, people there don't mind admitting that someone else goes quicker than them round a track :)

But I spend most of my biking internet time here, left VD a while ago, didn't like the new format.

I spend a fair bit of time on the Ninja forum as well. TBH this place is a little more restrained, but at the same time people seem to take offence far more quickly to things said and take themselves far to seriously at times. The ninja forum is more my sense of humour and may come across as bitchy to some people on here. but its just a laugh and far more relaxed and comical.

This place is 3rd in my choice of forums at the moment. The best thing going for it is the frequancy and quality of the ride outs. not come across a site as good for it yet.

Cool, some good points of view there. Interesting to see where other people on here post too. I'm also on ZZR International for technical info. Its reasonably chilled there too, but again, its not a cool power ranger bike and I reckon the average age is, well, a bit above here.

Did have a look into VD but thought it was just a big w*lly waving contest mainly, and the technical info was too diluted as it caters for so many bikes.

Yes, I bloody hate the place. An aggro-filled willy waving contest between tw@s with litre sportsbikes, which the vast majority cannot use properly.

I think single model sites tend to be friendlier. On some of the multi bike sites it starts from stabbing each other about what bike they ride. Like has already been mentioned, a lot of the ******s are those that wont dare go out riding with anyone else, probably get the bike out of the garage more to wash it than to ride it.
Ill be sticking around here, despite the fact I no longer own an SV because the PM has a good active userbase and I can arrange rideouts with decent people.
I think if there was a survey of % of people who no longer have an SV, it would be quite interesting and I reckon easily 20% of the people on here (regular posters only) would no longer own an SV
