went out late this afternoon for a wee run got about an hour done when the rain started 70mph gusts lashes of rain and failing light, leaved roads and retarded drivers. Brilliant loved every minute of it, only thing I can't quite get used to is full beam on wet visor blindness 1,2,3 second gaps in vision. Faith, the little voice in your head telling you to ignore the voice in your head.
Anyone else venture out tonight, 'Twas very entertaining.
Oh and the re-waterproofing of my textiles seems to have worked.

I'm slowly getting back, only commuting for the moment but the wind is a b****, leaves are everywhere...
Got surprised by a strong gust at a set of lights, luckily had my foot down so nothing happened.
The Ice Cream run will sure be fun if it keeps up like this :D

;)Must be quite a conversation going on inside your helmet with all these little voices speaking to you
I know where you are coming from regarding the momentry vision loss and I suppose that is what is called"Blind Faith[-o<" which is OK if you know the road but can be bloody scarey if its a strange road and you end up braking on an unkown wet surface in the dark.

rapid blinking..... gets ur eyes use to the dark again very quickly.. it takes practise but it does work.

Don't look into high beams in the first place! Just look off to the left like at your curb.

What did you use to rewaterproof your textiles?

I remember my 2nds day on DAS (the day before my test) I went for a ride into the derbyshire dale....gust of wind were blowing me 1m sideways, you had to lean into the wind just to go in a straight line.

sorry didn't explain about blindness, loss of vision due to headlight hitting all the water on the visor and the droplets dispersing and magnifying the light, not to do with getting night vision back or looking into the beams.

Shonadoll I used nikwax detergent to wash the gear then reproofing spray to coat it. You do get a in wash reproofer but it messes up the breathability as it coats the outside and inside in the machine

Dont mind the big raindrops as much as the drizzle or spray in heavy traffic, could not see ferk all on the way home last Tues night on the motorway.. combination of spray and the salty gunge that was on the roads. Riding blind for most of the way.. decided just to sit behind a car with bright tail lights to guide me!
I use a Wurth treatment thingy on my visor for rain, works fine to keep it clear till the road grime builds up.

Not used it for years so cannot remember the destructions but seem to remember you could also use a bucket rather than machine, would need to be a huge bucket though

Yep not much you can do about that other than keep wiping your visor with your glove each time it annoys you. In winter I stuff a dishcloth (keeps the marigolds company!) down between my clocks and the screen, with a corner hanging out to grab hold of, so I can clean the visor on the move. This is mainly to help with salty spray off damp roads smearing the visor when its not raining and you can't get enough clean water to wipe your visor with, but can be useful to deal with droplets and streaks too.

Its fogging thats been bothering me! This is my first winter with the HJC and it doesnt have a visor position that holds it open by 1/2 inch. Its either 2 inches (not pleasant, spray and salt in your mouth!) or about 1/4 inch which is not quite enough to stop fogging at round town speeds. I need to get up to 60mph before the visor clears when sealed down with the chin vent open, which means town riding and motorway filtering either needs an open visor or dangerously bad visibility.

My Caberg is too big for my head now, that didn't fog, but I could probably get away with a balaclava to make it a tighter fit, but it blows a jet of cold air at your brow, the chin vent is useless and it has bad habit in heavy rain of collecting water droplets inside the visor where you cant wipe, though I have no idea where they get in.

I've tried fog city and the like before but didn't have much success with it. Was thinking about trying one of the anti-fog silicon sprays. Anyone use them?

Just done a search on old threads.

Northy, I see you use Nikwax Visor Proof, for clearing rain on the outside. Does that do anti-fog on the inside as well? Can you buy it in Edinburgh?

My Caberg is too big for my head now
My God man, your head is shrinking, see a doctor!

I've got Pinlock (http://www.pinlock.com) visor insert. It's not quite the 100% fix the publicity would have you believe but it certainly allows me to have my visor locked down as long as I'm moving, even if that's just at a crawl through traffic..

And wind is for yacht racing, it has no place in biking!

My Caberg was the same, it fitted initially then got baggy. I've got a pinlock thingy too, and as Tiger says, not 100% but so much better.

With regard to visor problems I use AUTOGLM silicone spray. Spray it lightly on the outside of your visor, leave it overnight then buff it off next morning. It is a water repellent with the added advantage of keeping the seals and locking mechanisms in good order and a large spray can lasts for ages

It's no so much the head that has shrunk, but the layers of fat around my face!!!

I do think that even before I lost weight the Caberg had got baggy though. Every helmet gives a bit and you should always buy them a wee bit too tight, but the Caberg lining has definately lost it's spongyness.

no matter how clever you are, the original retort is still the best.

To be fair to Ralph he has lost a bit weight, think its cause his missus refuses to make 2 seperate meals so hes been on a diet of blended carrot and rusks for a year now:twisted:

Does that do anti-fog on the inside as well?

Old trick i was told about.. Fairy liquid smeared over the inside of yer visor with your finger.. then buff off with dry cloth, doesn't leave smears or anything.. but does work.

Don't waste your time with the Fairy liquid. I've also tried the pink block of wax stuff from the bike show. I have the Pinlock insert and I absolutely swear by it - more expensive, it took a little getting used to the 'interior line' of the insert...but it works! And that's from a 'heavy breather'!
