Whilst visiting a mate last night his 2yr old said something that got us talking about things we said as kids - quite funny. So I thought it'd make an amusing thread.

I'll start:

Yang Yang - chewing gum (when you chew it so long and it gets tough)
Bilge - fizzy drink (no idea)
Woof woof - dog (unsurprisingly)

Edit - just remembered another one.

Order redinary - ordinary (couldn't pronounce it right)

gave my son a row for asking for a f***ing knife when he was 3.

he was actually saying fork and knife.

same son was asked whilst being assessed at nursery if he had any pets and what they were called.

he said he had 2 cats called "bloody cats" :o

Apparently when I was about 2 I started using the word "grit" for everything - I would even start saying it for absolutely no reason at all - apparently it drove my parents mad as I kept this up for about a year - no idea why? :?

Never have I been able to say Sandwich properly. Still can't.
Always comes out as Sangwitch and I even spell it that way.
Obviously if I try I can say Sandwich and spell it that way but Naturally I always say and spell it wrong.

My sister used to call her best friend 'Nomas' should have been Thomas, and much to my mums annoyance my first words were 'Track Track', as in Tractor.
The best wasn't a mispronouncunation, but when I was about 5 and in the gents in some service station on holiday when I said very loudly:
"Dad, why do some men have big willies and some men have small willies?"

Didn't stay there long.....

My sister used to call the motorway service stations "Welcome Beak" because they had a swan as their logo - she would get so upset when we tried to tell her what it really was - ahh them were the days...

Bit embarrassed with one sons painting of a rural aspect with a big tree in the middle Titled C**t Tree instead of country and it was hanging on the classroom wall.

Slightly off topic but can somebody explain to me how kids are taught to spell today
as my granddaughter completely baffles me with her writing and spellings, seems to be written as spoken------------is this normal practice for 5year olds

My son still has us in stitches with his interpretation of Apple Crumble - Crappy Umble. The whole family still call it that 13 years on.

His other favourite came about when he couldn't understand why the TV remote was either called the 'Channel Changer' by his elder sisters, or the 'Controller' by his mum. Dan decided to make up his own word that's also still in regular use - 'Conchannels'.

My nickname of 'Lozzo' was given to me by my little sister who had real trouble saying 'Laurence' when she was a toddler, and the name has stuck with me for over 40 years.

My son went to nursery school and was asked his name. Harry, he replied. What is your second name - the boy, he replied.

We used to call him Harry Boy at home.

My other half is like that; her younger sister used to call her Shon when she was little, as she coulnd't pronounce Siobhan. That's stuck all her life.

"Boom boom" is thunder to her too.....

Whenever we played Monopoly, my sister would always ask for "2 pounds for passing Go". Then she'd wonder why she always lost! She'd also say 'Marrowbone Station' as she couldn't pronounce Marylebone.
