:winner: I knew an old fella that was a mechanic in the days of the old Brit Bikes, he once said to me
"There are 2 types of people that ride British Bikes. The 1st is the really old geezer that doesn't know any better & the 2nd are the youngsters that do them up & don't realise haw bad they really were"
Bit harsh I think, some of the Brit stuff wasn't too bad............................................... .................................................. ........................... Was it? :)
I've finally got it, it's an Ariel Colt 200!!! In actual fact, it's this one

A gb 250!
Zorst doesn't look quite right for a GB250 to me, I'm swayed more towards CB250 Night Hawk. But I'm getting a bit heavy-eye'd so not sure.

+1 :)
+1 :)
I nearly bought one once, from the bloke who started Wheels International. It was an absolutely mint condition early model with the rollover clocks, and he only wanted 500 quid for it - I bought a GT750 kettle instead.
Can someone else have a go, I'm likely going to be offline for a few days.

its a little bit naughty really..
The engine got used by lots of bike manufacturers... ;)
I think it's a Villiers engine from the early 30s, possibly a 125cc or 150cc. I think it might be a Carlton HE or an Excelsior
skeetly
29-12-08, 11:50 PM
On the button with the engine except the date (and yet not...) :)
I've got a horrible feeling I'll have to reveal more of the bike itself though...

Nope.
Same engine though :)
It seems that every bike manufacturer in the 30s and 40s made a similar bike with rigid frame ,girder forks and that engine :)
It`s got me beat  any more clues ? It is British I suppose ?

AMC owned Matchless and AJS, they later merged with Norton, Francis Barnett, and James so I'm guessing it is one of these bikes?
mister c
02-01-09, 11:16 PM
Yup, could be any of them. I'll be honest & say that I'm stumped & I've give up looking now :)
skeetly
03-01-09, 12:06 AM
It is a naughty one.
OK one last clue and I'll reveal the annoying truth tomorrow night if no one gets it.
Its not british...
Its a 1948 Waratah 125 from Australia :)
Apparently they simply rebadged existing Norman and Excelsior machines hence it looks like a dozen similar British machines of the time.
Oh and this particular example is in the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney ;)
Nice one Skeetly, looking for that gave me something to do at work for the last week :)
