Good luck mate.

Are there any points you feel you not happy with i.e. U-turn, emergency stop?

Just treat the test like a lesson and relax, it's amazing just how relaxed you are made to feel. If you think you have made an almight boo boo just forget it and carry on, you probably will be OK.

I found that my test was so much less stressful than my lessons.
If a made a slight mistake I was expecting to hear a bit of advice in my ear like in a lesson but it was silent :)
I actually rode the worst I ever rode since starting to ride a bike due to nerves and second guessing myself but passed very comfortably.
So my advice. Enjoy your 35 mins on the bike and you'll be fine.
Also it felt like it took 5 mins. :)

I did fine on the U-turns and emergency stop on my first DAS day but I don't want to get complacent and know it could be a lot different on the day. All i'm worried about is that it only takes one dodgy u-turn and that's it!.

i was worried about locking the back wheel up on emergancy stop, so i hardley used it

Try not to over think about what you can do wrong, relax. If you find yourself getting uptight do as I do when I go round a bend I hate ......... sing LOL

They can't hear you ..... but don't nod your head to the beat LOL they will fail ya !

I did mine a year ago this November. It was second time lucky. Even lost the examiner for ten minutes, but he still passed me. As has already been said. Don't panic about mistakes, just keep going. Remember, the examiner is looking for basic competence and safety, Not an audition for the police motorcycle display team.
Good luck.

good luck with it, to echo what has been said above, just relax and take your time, don't fret about the things you miss otherwise you will do worse.
All the best and don't forget to let us know how you do :D

my instructor did a big speech just before my test

"stop being so hard on yourself, we've done your training and taught your things to such a high standard up here *holds hand above head* but the examiner is looking for you to ride safely to around this level *lowers hand to shoulder level*, so all that extra stuff like looking both ways when you ride through a green light at cross roads, is just to cement the examiners belief in your riding & observational skills"

or words to that effect. So just take a deep breath, get on the bike, and just ride it as you've been taught to. If you *think* you've just made a mistake - forget about it, or you'll lose your focus on the task in hand = riding safely :)

apart from that, good luck!

lol didn't get it unfortunately, training went really well and barely made any mistakes, test came and I ended up taking the wrong exit at a double mini roundabout. It just really caught me off guard and I didn't know which way to go, ended up cutting someone up and he said if someone has to brake for you it's a fail. Silly mistake but i've never seen a double mini roundabout in years of car driving and it confused the hell out of me!

I think I did all the routes so that i knew where i was going on whichever route he took me

Sorry to hear that you didn't pass. x

He did and I had no problem with the double minis then but he gave instructions differently, he said they should always be treated separately so he'd give instructions for each in advance whereas the examiner just said second exit at the roundabout at which point I panicked and went the wrong way (I still, technically, took the second exit but didn't count the give way line to the second roundabout as an exit). My entire ride was no where near as smooth as it had been in training either, nerves really got the better of me, was also still pretty dark and ****ing down. Not much fun really!

well done for getting this far & dont give up. I asked my instructor what would happen if I carried out a different manouvre to what the examiner had said i.e. turning left instead of right. He said "as long as you carry out the manouvre with all your safety checks, signals and proper machine control, there's nothing to worry about since you can never guarantee 100% reliability on the communications".

Atleast you know what to expect for next time & you might even get the same test route :)

Bad luck,

Bring back the old 4 times round the block and an emergency stop. No messing with roundabouts etc. Only obstacles the examiner can run between.

lol, no mate, my name is Saul but i'm not from Bristol so you must know another one! which is rare!

It wasn't the fact I went the wrong way that failed me, it was that I was in the left lane and went right, said it was dangerous which, had there been traffic it would have been especially on a bike so fair enough.

I'm going to book it again for the next available but i'm a bit worried about leaving it a few weeks then sitting the test. I won't forget how to ride will I or will I need more training?!

Paul the 6th
18-11-08, 10:44 PM
how about: book your test so you know the date, and then have a word with your training school and ask if you could get a few hours of refresher lessons in just to polish up maybe?

Hope this helps :)
