Prices have been dropping here in the US from 4 weeks ago at $4.47 USD per US gallon to now $2.25, don't know how long the trend will last but it sure is nice .....The economy is horrible and the stock market is in shambles and people are loosing their 401K savings like it was never there:(
Have the prices been dropping in Europe?
EssexDave informed me that he was paying upwards of $10.00 per US gallon...Europe certainly got the short end of the stick.

I'm selling petrol for $1.99 (USD) per gallon!
At the highest was $3.89 per gallon.
To sort it all that out in terms everyone can understand....
( exchange rate 13 Nov. 2008 )
1.99 USD per gallon = .30 GBP per liter (BanannaMan's Low Price!) ;)
2.25 USD per gallon = .33 GBP per liter
3.89 USD per gallon = .58 GBP per liter
4.47 USD per gallon = .66 GBP per liter
.95 GBP per liter = 6.39 USD per gallon
1.20 GBP per liter = 8.07 USD per gallon
"Gas" in England refers to what Americans call LPgas or Propane.
"Petrol" is the term used for what the US calls "gas" or "gasoline".

Our prices have been dropping yes but the price of energy which price is based on the cost of oil even though it bears no relation whatsoever has stayed high. Damn energy companies.

92.9p here. Definate drop. I notice the ****ers at the petrol stations on the motorway service stations haven't dropped their prices at all and it's close to £1.10 still.

I filled up last friday with V-power (keeps the carb icing away) at 99.9 pence per litre (ok, lets called it a quid per litre). I was nicely suprised by that

So far I've seen 92.9 in Portsmouth and 95.9 cheapest (Old Street) in London.

Can we form a .org collective and have our "gas" shipped in from the good ole US of A, (purchased from our friend on here) or will the government tax us for importing?????????????
p.s. BanannaMan my commission rates to act as your agent over here are very very reasonable;)

What are 401K savings? Some kind of pension?
Even though fuel is dropping its still way too high. Oh its about £92.9/93.9/litre around here.

£92.9 per litre, you are being shafted! I thought £1.10 was bad enough!!

I've heard this 401 terminology before but no idea what it is.

The 401k is a savings plan basically.
All it is, is like our pension schemes, but you pay income tax on it when withdrawing (but not before). Options are to contribute yourself as you earn, or pay annually etc.
The better ones allow US citizens to not pay income tax on anything they earn, up to a limit, so long as the 401k payment is made.
PS, BanannaMan, have I told you how much I hate you, selling petrol at 30p/litre. :smt067:lol:

Thanks for the clarification Banannaman (now that i think about it , what does BP stand for #-o)

Baph got it Bluethunder , it is a retirement plan set up by the employer and can be set up in different ways but basically you contribute a percentage of your pay towards your 401k account and your employer matches up to 50% of your contribution (depending on how generous your employer is) . Most 401k accounts set up by employers are through a financial institution (mine is Charles Schwab) , these institutions basically trade on the stock market and if the market goes sour like it has been, they loose money including yours and if they go bankrupt (well kiss your money good bye).
I've been lucky so far because i have a very generous boss who set up an IRA (this is different than a 401k ,Individual Retirement Account under a SEP plan) on my behalf so basically my employer contributes 20% of my total yearly earnings while i contribute 0%:smt003 , so in a sense it's like making 20% more yearly but instead of him giving it to me he gives it to my account

USD = United States Dollars
GBP = Great Britain Pounds

Price down to $1.91 per gallon today
28p/liter
Is that better???
Truthfully.... The sagging US economy has much to do with the currently low prices here.
I was selling much more of it when the prices were at their highest.
(generally I make about the same profit... no matter the price)

I wish petrol here was that cheap.
$1.91 is insane.

What annoys me is that 70% of the petrol cost here is duty from the Government. Sigh. We get stealth tax on everything... we also get normal tax on everything. Tax tax tax. I bet in the end we only actually ear 40% of our origional wages.
Just because I dont think anyone has mentioned it I best... US Gallon is 3.78Litre's. Ours and the rest of the worlds is 4.55Litre's.

IRA----Formerly a terrorist group but now a respectable financial institution???
And BP is British Petroleum.
And here was me about to comment on my gas bill! Which incidentially was very low, usually about £80, the last one was £28, Bargain! (and the meter was read, not estimated!)
