I'm not getting a dial tone and don't know what else to check.Any1 that could help?

Setup is Thomson 585 modem router (O2 branded) and Linksys SPA2102.

Linksys is connected to the Ethernet port 3 of the Thomson modem. SIP provider is Voipbuster.

I think I have port fwded the 5060 port on the Thomson to the Linksys and on the Linksys it says registered for the line...........but no dialtone :(

Do you get a dialtone with a VOIP phone? have you tried entering the number first and then pressing the call button, similar as to how you'd use a mobile phone?

Have you tried wiring eth on the computer via the Linksys to the TG585?

As in, unplug the computer ethernet cable from the router, plug that into the Linksys. Once that's done, leave the Linksys connected to the router.

Does the computer have an internet connection like that? If not, I'd be guessing that the Linksys isn't setup correctly in the Thomson router.

Also, ensure that UPnP is enabled on the router. Let me know how you get on. :)

what I have checked is that a laptop connected to the linksys via eth and the linksys to the TG585 - there is internet on the laptop

what you mean "calling the voip number" I only have an outgoing line.....cannot receive calls as voipbuster won't give you any numbers at the moment

i dont think voipbuster have peering agreements with other providers, i use voipfone and have no problems at all, ive used it with a Sipura TA/Granstrom Handset and a few other things.

what do you mean peering agreements TSM?

the previous O2 router had phone plugs built in and you could just enter the SIP details on there and it worked fine. unfortunately they don't give that router out anymore :( I had used voipbuster with that fine as well

Yep i had the same router as well, O2 are just BeThere rebranded as they bought them up a while back, annoying box as somtimes it would just drop its connection and you would have to then use the CP or restart the box. Now i just use an old Granstrom handset or a Sipura TA, my voipfone have autoconfig things to set my units up which is easy.

Peering agrements are links between VoIP providers, when you make calls between them, usualy they dont cost anything. At the moment the VoIP world does not have a unified cross link structure, but one day it may happen.

Cannot help with your setup, but I use sipgate. you get your number on registration ( local numbers and not national).

Pros
Reliable
quick/easy to setup
reasonable peering

cons
charge by minute, you loose unused part of minute
only one number per account (but you can have multiple accounts).

However, my telephony costs are a fraction of what I used to pay BT & VM for. average monthly bill is now less than £5

The 585 Routers SUCK big time

The one the BeThere supplied me only partially saved the config, and my Neighbour who also moved to Be, had even more problems

Go get a better router - it also means that they cannot then log onto your router and tweak it whenever they want.

there is also vonage, 5.99 month for free uk only landline. i have it and its great... but saying that i have cable and got rid of the cable phone so it paid for itself by doing that.

if you are a heavy landline user it may be worth thinking about... really easy to set up .. just plug it in and away you go.. you also get a free router/device. you also get a free geographical or local number.

i have had no problems what so ever in the whole time i have had it, which is about 3 years... its had call diversion to any number you choose in case your internet connection goes down ...

and here comes the sales pitch .. rofl.. if you do decide to go for it you can get 3 months free if you ask me..
