View Full Version : modifying footpegs
First trackday I did on the sv, it felt like my outside foot was ready to slip off the peg. So in desperation, I stripped the rubber off the pegs and discovered they were kind of spikey underneath. That was an improvement over the rubber, but still not great. So I've been thinking what I should do about it, wondering if I could file the spikes sharper and also round the top edge of the pegs because they're fairly square. Anyway, this evening I had a go at it and it seems to have worked, I'm quite pleased with the result:

I still have to take it for a ride, but they feel like they'll work better. I've got a trackday next saturday weather permitting, so I'll test them out then.

you could probley do wot you said but i would either 1.try a set of the pegs you get one eaby for about 15 quid that come in all sorts of coloure plus they still flip up etc...2.go for race pegs and try and bolt them onto the orignal hangers or 3.go for a set of rear sets whice would be the dearest option.

Also if you go for a set of race oegs and try and bolt them on they wont flip up.
heres a few sets here:

also go into ther other items and they do another style and are only a £11 quid or something like that

Did you know that the pegs without the rubber on are exactly the same as some gixxer pegs?? The only difference( apart from the rubber) is that gixxer ones are more expensive ;-)
I have srad gixxer ones on the black sv and stripped the rubber off the ones on the yellow one...and guess what they is identical!
What's best way to get the rubber off? I tried a while ago but it wouldn't budge so I gave up :D

got it off with a stanley knife, sliced it along the edges, then a pair of pliers or something, can't remember for toffee, but it was a bt of bugger once it had been sliced in chunks!

Aye, that is because the SV ones are SRAD ones with a rubber top.

its a con though isn't it..peeps that don't know go and buy the SRAd ones and think they got something special, and pay more for the priviledge too...I was nearly caught out until YC ( cause hes stingy with his cash) swore blind they were the same!

I used a knife to slice the top stuff off and a flathead screwdriver (like the one in the toolkit) to scrape/chisel between the teeth. It's a pain trying to get it off. Once I got most of it off, I clamped each footpeg in a vice and used a butane torch to burn the rubber and a wire brush to get it off.
Don't just try to burn the rubber off with the peg hanging on a bit of wire or something, I did and got the peg a bit too hot and can see a few places where bubbles have formed under the surface. If you burn the rubber a bit in the vice, then wire brush, then repeat, it'll be ok.

Hey guys, new to the site. I am converting an 07 Sv to track use, and a cheap foot peg swap is 04 gsxr pegs. They are about 1" higher also. They fit fine but the rear brake line is not long enough now. My son bought a track bike with the same conversion and it has a longer brake line. Does any one know what brake line will fit that is 2" longer?
Thanks

Are they actually more grippy w/o the rubber? I noticed my feet were sliding off them today.

Yeah it does help. Grind the ends down a bit too otherwise your toe slips on the smooth end of it (right where you need it to be sticky!)

How do you mean grind it down? Just angle grind some grooves into the smooth bit or sommat?

Yeah.
Or fit some rearsets, find out that the end of those is still slippy, so add your own custom tarmac-patterned grippiness to the end of the peg... Oops.

Awww maaan. Yeah I'll get that done then, for a second today I though my bike had dumped it's oil or something and it'd got on the pegs..I was suddently aware they were slippy as fook.
BTW the brakelever didn't bother me so I'm gonna leave it.
