just wondering how much space is under the rear seat, so i could judge if a chain will fit in so i dont have to carry a bag around all the time!

cheers

ERRMM how big is this chain.
I can fit a disc lock (as it slides down to the battery box ), and a pair of gloves and thats about it full up.
So only a small chain in reality.

Depends on the chain. I've got one of these under mine:

It's a toy compared to my Almax, but it'll deter opportunistic and "ride away" thieves. There's also space for a sidestand puck and scottoiler in there at the same time as the chain if you put it in carefully. There are some scare stories about the undertray falling out and the chain wrapping itself around the back wheel, but I've done this for over 3 years without a problem. NB: My bike is a K4, with the stock snow plow and undertray and I check that the undertray isn't loose as part of my servicing.

Depends on your bike, if you have a Thundercat or a 2000 Fireblade you have enough room for oxford monster chain, disklock, bottle of water, sunglasses and toolkit.

If you have an SV, get a bag ; )

you can easily fit something like an "oxford hardcore" or something similar in the rear underseat bay. But if you have an alarm in there or some other electrical gizmo you wont fit much if you keep the tool kit in. I have a punture repair kit, expanded toolkit and a lock in mine.

well i put my deposit down on an sv today so i guess you could say i have one :D but you say i can fit the oxford hardcore chain in there?

yeah.. or something similar.. lots of locks are of similar dimensions, its just a matter of folding it in carefully really rather than expecting it to just fall in there haha :)

Its best to install an alarm elsewhere rather than under the seat anyway so that opens up some room. Other than the lock i would just put a few extra tools in the toolbag to make sure you can attend to most small problems. And a nice puncture repair kit fits snugly under the seat lock.

On some Pointys the tool kit is next to the battery in a small compartment, accessible from the outside.

Yes, on K4s at least, the toolkit is in a small box near the rear shock/battery accessible from the left hand side of the bike. It has a little lug near the top that you need to pull out to get the cover off.

I fitted my tail tidy and hugger the weekend and took the opportunity to relocate the relays under the pillion seat. I zip-tied them to the frame on the left-hand side under the pillion seat (next to my Scottoiler) and now have plenty of room under the pillion seat. You would easily fit an Oxford Hardcore chain in there, I currently have my Oxford disc lock, fixa-peg, side stand puck and spare bungees in there and there is still room!

Does the 1st-gen or 2nd-gen bike have the bigger trunk?? it looks like the 03+ have a bigger ass end.. but I never have seen under the seat of anything other than my old 99

I could get a small multi tool, set of bungee nets, 2 other bungees, allen keys, digital tire gauge a cheap set of waterproof rain pants and a knit neck band thingy.

Sorry to hear that zsv. If it's any consolation, almost anything you buy in Halfords will be ten times better than the tat included in the OE toolkit. :)
