OK - about 12 months ago I got diagnosed with severe high blood pressure - hypertension at somewhere in the region of 185/116.
I take the pills the quack gave me and excecise a lot and generally try to avoid getting stressed out with the eventual aim of getting the dose on the pills reduced (if possible)
How many others are there out there with the same problem coz I get a bit depressed about it from time to time and wonder how other people get on with it
BTW blood pressure mostly about 137/85 now except when I'm at work when it seems to average 155/90

Sorry to hear that... I`m not hypertensive myself but a colleague was diagnosed last year with hypertension. She found the medication wasn`t working too well so looked at her diet and drastically reduced her salt intake. She also started taking a Fish Oil supplement (5 capsules) daily and took up yoga. Her blood pressure has been within the normal range for her age for the past 5 months and she`s convinced its due to the fish oil and yoga!

I don't do much salt really and have been careful what I eat. I have managed to lose about a stone in 12 months, an inch off my waist and chest and go down a collar size - plus I do feel a lot fitter generally as well.
I walk, jog and do aerobics as well as some gym work 2 or 3 times a week. I still think most of it is due to work related stress tho and that is hard to mitigate.
Don't get me started about high blood pressure:rolleyes:
Mine isn't too high.................generally around the same as yours.............but I have to have mine checked every time I go for the contraceptive jab, and because I know they are concerned about it, I get stressed and it shoots up, which gets them more concerned about it...............it's a vicious circle. I have to go for my jab on friday and I'm already stressing about my blood pressure:(

Make sure you drink plenty of water, avoid fatty foods and smoking. Try to live with low levels of stress, learn to relax and enjoy exercise.
Then when you go to the GP and he says you still have high blood pressure, you can Tw@ him with his gauge! Worked fine for me and I later found my blood pressure returned to normal. Mine was stress induced though and that made me feel quite unwell for a while.
Keep the faith and try not to worry because that makes it worse.

I have hypertension as well, i do all the diet stuff etc reducing the amount of league ice hockey has helped, as now i only play for fun. but i think its mostly work related for me, so for now theres not much else i can do.
try not to get depressed, it wont help.
i find if you set aside a whole weekend everynow and then to just do your own thing it helps to foget about it and that definately helps
not going to post but I'm the same..
I bloody hate it... :-(
pill taking everyday...
I'm the exact opposite, I suffer with extremely low blood pressure caused by Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I've had one very mild heart attack aged 20, a major one aged 21 and a mild stroke at 42.
I have a bet on with a good mate who has a bit of money - if I die before I'm 65 he inherits my best bike, if I live past my 65th birthday he buys me a new bike. I'm 46, I think he may win this one.
i have regulated blood pressure. my first reading from a few years ago was along your lines, about 185/100 IIRC.
my last few checks have all been the same, and Doc seems happy. about 120/85. have it checked only once a year now
i take 5mg of ramipril a day, which isnt a particularly high dose. it doesnt bother me to be honest, to the extent my cardio exercise isnt as it should be at the moment. your thread has prompted me to sort that out and take care of me a bit more.
I used to have high BP, until I got divorced (seriously!), doctor decided that I was in such a stressful marriage that it cause high BP.
I've been stress free for the last 10 years and no problems. Is there anything in your life that making you particulary stressed?
i used to have very low blood pressure, then i guess due to moving house/job/planning the wedding it went high its been normal for a little while now but i am due for it to be taken and my yearly ECG next month

Mainly work I think - it was particularly bad just before Xmas last year and I was ready to crack a couple of times. I think the think what got me through that period was my wife and my little boy.
I try not to get too stressed about stuff but I seem to be one of natures worriers and get to wound up to easy.
Daft as it may seem a ride on the bike unwinds me coz I only have to think about one thing - the ride.
Everybody has been so nice and given me some suggestions to add to what I do already that I will try them as well and see if I can calm down some more.:sunny:
