One question...why all that crap?
I carry my Carole Nash recovery card and the standard toolkit under mine, next to the Scottoiler.

One question...why all that crap?

Why not? It's not like I'm going to use the space for anything else and there's not a single thing in that list that I've not needed/used when out on the bike on at least one occassion, other than the spare clutch lever and tyre repair kit and it's not likely that I will never need them. I've even been able to use the stuff to help other riders (who didn't have anything more than the basic toolkit on their bikes) on more than one occassion.
I view the AA as a last resort for recovery when I can't fix something rather than as the first port of call. Given your mechanical aptitude, I'm surprised you don't carry more. Do you use the space for carrying other stuff, sandwiches, etc? Bear in mind 90%+ of the time I have at least one bit of soft luggage on the bike, usually a Kriega US-10, I can put other things I need more frequently in that. In terms of weight it can't be more than 1.5kg tops and it's fairly evenly distributed around the bike. I've packed it so it doesn't rattle and unless I'm looking for something, I'm not even aware that it's there, so really can't see any downside to carrying it all.

This thread has spurred me into action. I'm on a mission to see how much useful kit I can get under my seat. Assembling my 'bikers survival kit' at the moment.
I'll let you all know the results.

Toolkit
disc lock
bungee
Nothing else will fit.
just a chain and lock, hoping to fit my disk lock in there too when it gets here
Given your mechanical aptitude, I'm surprised you don't carry more. .
Maybe, just maybe, it's because of my mechanical aptitude that I don't need to carry that crap around. My bike doesn't develop those niggly little faults you all seem to suffer from.
In the last 15 years I've only needed to use Aunty Carole's breakdown service when the bike has either been crashed or has gone terminal on me. Either way I was never going to fix it at the roadside unless I was carrying a spare engine or forks and the contents of my Snap-On toolchests under the seat.

Toolkit.
Waterproof trousers.
Disc lock.
Nothing interesting for me.
Bump! three years late but, cotton wool, a flint, small bag of potassium permanganate, a snare, small thread saw, small compass, box of storm proof matches, water purification tablets, four durex, a survival bag, whistle, pen knife and a copy of house wifes extreme.
As noted in another thread, there's sod all except Mr Kawasaki's cheese toolkit under mine, and I only carry the toolkit because it's a safe place to keep it so it doesn't get lost in the garage for when I sell the bike.
I have a Carole Nash recovery card and a mobile phone in my pocket for emergencies.
When I checked the other day. All that's under my rear seat is the Suzuki tool kit and some rosary beads!?

Don't put a (not particulaly well wrapped) large slice of Victoria sponge generously filled with buttercream and jam under your rear seat. As Ravingdavis can testify - it won't survive the trip and makes one hell of a mess when the clingfilm bursts :(
