As I will be using the bike during the winter months I would like to keep it well protected. I keep my car clean so keeping the bike clean will not be a chore. I got a free bottle of Scottoiler FS 365 from HG when I was buying my gear but have read some of the comments and most people (although the FS 365 is supposed to be good) prefer ACF-50. My question is where to buy (Glasgow/Central area) the ACF-50 and how and when to apply it? I will use the Scottoiler FS 365 until I find some of the ACF-50.

Cheers

Colin

FS365 is good too it's just different. It washes (and rains) off so therefore you have to apply it regularly (water-based). It can be done, it kept my Harley perfectly fine during winter. You are saying you want to keep your bike clean. With ACF-50 you can't. You apply it (it's oil-based) and dirt etc starts sticking to it, you're meant to leave it on there/like that all winter, only topping up maybe. So if you like cleaning your bike once a week the FS365 is a good product to use.

you can buy acf-50 at HG
or you can get fs365 for free from HG. The decision is yours*

Cheers for the info guys, I think the Scottoiler FS 365 will be more suited for my wash routine. At the end of the day some protection is better than none - even better when it's FREE!

I clean after riding and use FS365, but I can't imagine keeping that up on a daily basis. With FS365 you can't just put the bike away dirty (and hence salty) and leave it like that for a week, especially a Suzuki it will suffer fast.

My first winter with the SV I used WD40, which is what I used to use on a Honda years ago so I thought it would be fine. Turns out it was just 'cos the Honda was quite corrosion resisitant and the WD40 wasn't doing a lot. With WD40 on the SV it needed replacement forks, yokes and engine cover under warranty due to corrosion after it's first winter. Now I use FS365 and it survived it's second winter much better, and now is into it's third.

If you are riding every day, unless you wash it a few times a week and re-apply the FS365, you'd be better off with ACF50. You can wash clean and re-apply that too if you wanted to, but you'd get away with only doing it once a fortnight.

sounds roughly the right time?

yours was the curvy?

mine has my new lower fairings :D and my slightly smaller fuel exhaust,

have to say wish they kept the engine black, would have made mine look more stealthy.

p.s i liked your back wheel.

(now its time for your input on my bike)

I use ACF50, because it means I don't need to wash the bike for months :smt003 FS365 does the job though but you don't half go through it if you're riding daily. I buy ACF off the net, but I get it in the bottles- squirt it on with a compressor and paraffin gun, gets everywhere. Rustproofs your lungs...

what do you mean about the rear wheel?

bike looked good man, i think i was in machine mart when you left otherwise i'd have said hi.

I use acf 50, I put a little bit in the cap and use a paint brush to apply.
I dont wash the bike unless it looks dirty and it lives outside under a cover but after 6 months i cant see any deteriation of the looks.

Aye the wheels are blue!
Bit wierd but i'll get round to changing them at some point, its on the list along with getting the (badly applied) rim tape off the front wheel.
