View Full Version : problem with k5 sv650 PLEASE HELP

hi all

i have a problem with my sv650 K5 it has only done 5000 miles and i keep on losing 1st, neutral and on the odd occation 2nd. the clutch is not slipping, it feels like when you try to put it into 1st or neutral it goes all spongy.

i really dont no what to do. ive checked the oil and clutch cable.

has any1 had this problem and how do you sort it.

you mean it won't go into gear? If so just try pushing harder.

yer it wont go into gear. ive tried stamping it down but it still wont go.

OK just to confirm it wont or is difficult get into gear ? If so dont stamp it down, you shouldnt be forcing it into gear, you may well do damage.

Some things to try

1. Clean, lube and adjust your chain, the SV is sensitive to chain tension and a slack or to tight chain may result in the symptoms you describe.

2. Check the oil level in sight glass, I had similar problems when I over filled it with oil.

3. Remove and clean the pivot on the gear lever ( do a search about this theres a really good post by Sid Squid that describes what to do )

4. Failing that you may also want to check your clutch is adjusted properly. Again search for how to do this as I cant remember the exact process.
