Im finding my bike has been wobbling recently at speed, hard acceleration and twitchy on corners. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what it might be? My first line of thought is the swing arm needs rebuilding or lubricating (generic terms as i dont know whats involved) as the rear suspension seems to be slow recovering even under maximum preload. The front forks seem fine, dont bottom out or leak any oil. The head race bearings are smooth with no slack. Any suggestions would be appreciated as i cant think of many more things to investigate.

Is your rear wheel aligned properly?

Start with check the wheel alignment, then bearings, and then wheel balance...

The wheel alignment is fine on the standard adjuster plates but i have not checked it with string so i suspect thats the next thing to try. The bearings run freely and are not noisy with no play in the wheel. The tyres are brand new and only just scrubbed in but the people who fitted them didn't balance as the were not geared up to do it. Does the balancing make that much difference as they are fine most of the time?

It can. Seems like we have a winner. Wheels are balanced to cure exactly what your are experiencing.

Jobs a goodun:smt035 thanks for the help! Can the balance the wheels on the bike or do they need to come off (again:rolleyes:) and presumably major bike shop can do wheel balancing? Any idea of cost? Sorry for all the questions.

They need to be taken off and put on a wheel balancing jig. Expect to pay about a tenner a wheel.

Its the front wheel balancer weights that are essential.

after having the same kind of feeling and hearing a knocking noise from the swingarm when I pushed down on the bike I got around to replacing the swing arm bearings. Turns out it wasn't the bearings but the actual bolt for the swing arm had worked loose and was finger tight! I have a 99 curvy
