View Full Version : Quick fix for Sky interrupted by birds?
Well, inspired by Paul's thread about DIY, I thought I'd ask the .Org's wisdom on this one.
Right now, I'm sitting here with the TV reporting "No satellite signal is being recieved." I'm putting money on it that one of the local birds is sitting on the LNB arm again (same species of bird the last week or so - possibly the same bird infact).
I don't really want to start supergluing things to the LNB arm (especially metal spikes as they could interfere with the signal too). I could get all high tech & detect the current drop, then do some sort of sonic output. But that's too much effort.
I could just go open the back door & use a broom handle, but I'm fed up of doing that. :)
So, anyone got any quick fixes (other than loading the bird table up more everyday)?

just go over to her house and say she's too heavy to sit on your roof and to please stop it

Flash bang, hook one onto the aerial and run a cord off of the pin and into you living room (saves you getting up).
I think a BB gun would be best. The springers should be not to powerful, but should be enough to make the bird think twice next time

plasic tie wrap on the LNB arm pointing upwards
Rig a speaker up in the loft as close to the offender as possible... select a suitably load track or perhaps record a couple of abusive phrases. Next time the signal goes, hit the play button....
*Remember to disconnect the other speakers or the wife might get upset.

zip tie a strip of pigeon spikes to the top of the arm:

First, take a stuffed bird of prey and nail it good and hard to the guttering above your dish.
Second, fishing line tied around the dish should make a suitable device to prevent roosting.
Thirdly, Nuke it from Orbit, just to be sure!
A can of WD40 and a lighter will make a handy flame thrower too, just do not use if you have a thatched roof.
Catch said bird and remove its intestines and adorn your naked body with its viscera.
There are many options, choose wisely.

Whatever he does he'll have to do it quickly 'cause it'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night... mostly;)
Get one of those sonic beeper that scares off birds......although that will rid your entire garden of birds which is not so good.
You could get one of those remote things so that you can activate whenever the signal goes/bird is sat on it.
