Not an sv but here is my attempt at hid on my tl. Done using alex directions of the tl forum, he was very helpful! More pics can be added and more direction given if interested or have a look on the tl forum if you want his instructions.

1st pic looks cool!

I'm sure the 2nd pic doesn't do it justice.

Looks like a complicated instal, i.e. not just replace bulbs etc etc etc on an SV. Think I've seen those instructions on the zone.

So what was total cost?

i havent got them adjusted right yet, its running 6000k should be getting some 4200k soon. Just having a hard time getting them adjust right at the minute getting a bit frustrating!

It has some chavtastic halo's that come on with the sidelight's!!

Damn, that's nice... Will you take it out for the run next week?

aarond

im out on it now, and if its nice i hopefully will get the chance! Having a proper hard time getting them adjusted right though. The way they are now is slightly better than stock but not much. HATE adjusting headlight aim!!

glue/silicon seal lens in place.

have a lot of fun:mad: trying to wire it in so can still turn lock to lock then reassemble!

What are those projectors, and will one alone do main and dip?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I have an idea forming...

aarond
28-11-08, 12:10 AM
yeah they both operate main and dip, sidelights do the halo ring / dip is dip /main is main and the flasher works just plugs into exsisitng h4 plug socket into the control box thing then it sorts it out. I got them off ebay will get you the link in a minute

aarond

link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140283078951&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123)

If you want can send him an email asking if can pass on detail to you, etc. He is a decent guy he original sent me wrong bulbs out 6000k he then sent me his phone number gave him a ring turned out 4200k were out of stock so he sent that so could use it in interim and he says will send out 4200k when get them in

F##king hell that's cheap.

I love the SRAD and M> look of the lamps behind glass... looks like an endurance refugee lol.

Are LEDs on sides well shielded enough that you could use them without the front plate?

How long are the wires?

aarond
28-11-08, 12:31 AM
wiring i found a pain they way it was wired up if i was honest some seemed too long others too short. Main problem was mounting the control units/relay box thing i have one in the front fairing and the other behind the headlight on the mount opposite the fuse box there. led's being shielded enough couldnt give an honest answer. Tell you what will pm u his email address and you can ask him

Nice one will give him a shout, think they could look nice on the 750 when I get hold of it 8)

Ah, it uses a lens protector to replace the standard lens! That's really, really clever.

What's the pattern like? Do they dip the wrong way or do they just dip straight up and down?

aarond
01-12-08, 07:28 AM
they are fine mate i need to adjust them properly still, but alex off the tl forum has his adjusted and passed his mot with them. You adjust them exactly the same as an ordinary bulb usig the adjuster on the back of the headlight as they fit in the hx bulb socket! Dip/high beam if i am honest doesnt seem to much difference i will adjust them better soon and let you know. so far so good though

Do they do this kit for the pointy sv? Like the idea of the projectors!

aarond
30-12-08, 11:40 PM
sure they would mate, i fitted it on my tl basicaly it goes in where your bulb usually goes you see how i did dont see why couldnt be done on the pointy

northwind
31-12-08, 12:01 AM
Pointy has plain lenses as well doesn't it- ideal really (curvies have diffusors on the lens)

I think so Northy. Would this be better than the tried and tested HID route?

aarond
31-12-08, 12:20 AM
i dont know what the tried and tested route is but bear in mind you have to separate the headlight this way suppose though you would need to do that the other way too. I think wiring maybe easier this way may be wrong though

northwind

Don't know. Proper projectors are definately better for a HID fit, no doubt at all, but then that depends on how good the parts are. And it's more hassle. I've not seen many HIDs in pointies for that matter.

Depending on how fubar'd my Headlight unit is (as in the mounting lugs) I MAY go down this route on my rebuild.

K6 pointy BTW :)

Aren't HID's illegal for motorbikes as they don't self adjust (level) and can blind oncoming motorists? Or am I confused?

northwind
31-12-08, 07:23 PM
They're illegal because they don't jump through the hoops required to be legal, but that doesn't mean they have to be unsafe- a badly fitted HID will glare oncoming drivers, a well fitted kit won't (fitting, here, includes being open to the possibility that you can't get a safe setting and have to bin it)

Tim in Belgium
31-12-08, 07:30 PM
Out of interest do any of the manufacturers jump through these hoops and stick them on their bikes?

I imagine they'd cost more so would only fit them to upmarket tourers etc.

ad53ggz, could you point your lamps at a flat surface and take a pic on main beam and dip so I can see beam pattern?

Cheers

Ooh this looks interesting. I wonder if I can mount two ballasts.. I'm thinking of something akin to the lo rider concept...

Mounting two ballasts on a faired bike isnt much problem, gets harder on a naked :p Should be fine though. Can you pm me his email address?

Thanks for posting the pics. Now I have to ask, are those beam patterns right?

I'll explain why I ask. To my eye, the first photo with the bike on its side stand looks right... for a LHD country. Straight lines horizontal(ish) with the kick down on the same side as the centre of the road.
The last two with the bike upright look like the lenses have been rotated in the housing to get the RHS down.

Cheers

Matt
