They will not do the hill I live on. Never have.

Nor will they place grit bin on the hill. So every year off the neighbours and I go with the wheel barrows to the nearest salt bin, raid it. and then spread on the hill as and when required.

Usually after 3 cars get stuck etc.

Yesterday they did not empty our bins because it was too icy. Well for feck sake grit the road. No we are contractors, it is the councils job to grit.

Well we applied said nicked salt last night and it worked well. Everyone off to work safely this morning.

So what is the first council vehicle up here this morning?. A rubbish truck to empty the bins they failed to empty?. No bloody chance. It is a road sweeper clearing the grit we applied last night.

Waiting for 9 O'Clock and my local councillor will get his annual icy weather ear bashing.

That sucks :( A road sweeper clearing the grit up is just stupid. We get a grit bin on our street because it's on a hill and the gritters don't come up it, but yesterday they didn't grit the main road and no lorries could get up it and got properly stuck. It was chaos.

Next time it gets icy phone the council up saying someone has dropped a load of grit on the road. The sweeper thing will come along and of course you haven't gritted it.
Just make sure all your cars are outta the way. :)

I would write to the national newspapers, see how quick they sort it out then

I also live at the bottom of a hill. The road also does not get gritted. There is a grit bin half way down the hill, which the local yoof take great pleasure in tipping over and throwing down the hill into the trees.

At least it's an amusing level of incompetence and stupidity...

Neither incompetent nor stupid. The council didn't know that there would be grit on the road.

Well they aren't competent at gritting the road or collecting your rubbish ... and they're certainly stupid for sending a sweeper up an ungritted road :-P

Write to them. Grit bins are granted on a priority basis. If you're on a hill that helps, and if there's elderly people in the street even more so.
