??
Don't... just don't!
Awful bikes. Gutless, unreliable, foul handling, poorly braked and just awful in every way. If the electric start works you'll be lucky if it lasts more than a few weeks of regular use. They have points ignition which manages to slip from day to day, the carburation does the same, goes out of synch at the drop of a hat, they drink oil and are terrible on fuel. Avoid like the plague no matter how bright and shiny it is.
As much as I hate to admit it, the 400 Superdream was a far better bike.
In case you're wondering how I can be so scathing - I owned one of these abominations when it was fairly new, and I was seriously disappointed. The two XS250s I owned were even worse.

The GS1000 looks ok. It's painted in the GS1000S colours, so should have a little bikini fairing mounted off the handlebars if it's an original S model.
They only do about 135mph, but are super reliable and tough as old boots. Handling is good for a late 70s UJM and the brakes were ok for their day (bit crap now though). Plenty of GS1000s go raced and very very successful. Some idiots still race them today in specialist classes. Tyre choice is limited on stuff like that because of the skinny wheels and 19" front, but there are still good tyres like BT45s avalable.
