How easy is it to remove the alarm/immobiliser from a K6??
I don't have the bike with me at the moment so can't take a look to see if it is easy or not. I was wondering if it is just a case of disconnecting a few wires or not.

Why do you want to?

Once you've removed it there's no hope of refitting it unless you label all the wires. (wires on an approved alarm are all black to make it harder to nick)

Easier than many think, and I hate electrics. Which alarm is fitted?

If you have the Suzuki accessory (Meta) alarm fitted that will make it much easier as must of this is a plug in connector. Isn't way to remove any alarm is to follow the wires from the control box, you will see where they have been spliced into another.

Haha. I'm pretty good with electrics, but the guy who fitted the Datatool to my old K3 naked was a marvel. I'd defy anyone to have traced the wires on that one. He'd chopped out half the bloody cables. I ended up buying a used wiring loom and fitting that because I cba to try and repair his deviousness. 35 quid and an hour and a half of my time was a far better option.

I have a Datatool alarm on my written off K6 and am thinking of taking it out to put in my replacement bike,...

Be careful - you insured it as having an alarm on it - so they expect there to be an alarm on it......

True David but, when they estimate the value they are working on the current market value. If they won't raise the offer they have given then I will be asking if it is OK to remove the additional items which they appear to be refusing to pay for. I already have authority to remove a few items and will be speaking to them again before anything like the alarm is removed. I understand what you are saying but after speaking with them, they don't seem too interested in fitted accessories.

Also if you want to swap tyres make sure you put some on that are legal.

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't bother fitting an alarm, especially not a Datatool. Why do you think I was removing the one from my old K3 Naked.

Are you claiming off your own insurance or a third party's? If it's your own then I can understand their reluctance to pay for extras of which a value wasn't pre-agreed, but a third party's should give you the value of the bike plus any extras that were fitted at the time it was written off.

If they won't budge then tell them you want the bike rebuilt and see how they like that. They can't refuse that demand.

+ 1, I have removed three off of my own bikes and I have been asked to remove a few for customers too (all doc's checked first).

Alarms don't work, how many times do you hear an alarm going off in a busy high street, and how many pay attention to it? Thief's now a days pick bikes up and throw them in the back of a van, some have been known to have 'Motorcycle Breakdown' written on the side. If you want a thief deterrent that won't drain you battery or not allow you to start the bike then get a chain.
