View Full Version : Thought I'd share... HONDA CB750 Cafe Racer
I don't know if you like this sort of bike but most people find this to be "The proper bike". Now this a nice looking CB750 cafe racer done real well. The owner left very little from the original bike. If I saw right what remains is the engine, frame and headlight. All else was replaced with better parts. Installing the braced swing-arm was a bit overkill but hey I would have most probably done the same had I came upon one. The front was also replaced with a more modern item complete with dual disc brakes for some real stopping power. Notice the nice detail on that custom seat. I think the rear stoplight is from a Ducati Monster. Sounds real nice too, this engine was always sweet sounding more so with open pipes.

That is awesome! The first bike I can remember my dad having was a CB750-F, red and it was frikkin' loud, sounded great. I have a soft spot for those bikes, and this one just looks awesome.

Yep, definately very "proper bike" in my book. CB750 was a good bike, mate hade one a couple of years back, it was surprising how "modern" it was (disc brakes, power, etc.) given its age.

Mixed feelings about this. I love the bike from the front, but the modern rear light doesn't work with the rest of the bike for me. Just personal opinion.

I like that too, and personally I think that modern rear light blends well with the rest of it.
Glad to see it's got some proper brakes though :)

Well it sort of goes in a modern take off the old cafe racer look. Kinda retro with a modern twist. Nice flow to it as well which is way better than the bulging horse shoes they used to fit at the back. I'd say it's cool.

Glad you like my work mate. It's been a while since I've done something of the sort for the site. Should do something neat pretty soon. I'm working on making a 3D SV650 model so I can try out some funky design ideas on. Kind of a customization platform before committing sort of thing. I'll post some pictures as soon as I have something decent to show.
Ooh I like that. Not sure about the swingarm though. JHS :?:
I like that, apart from the swingarm. Very nice.

I like it. Bit too solid and heavy looking for a cafe racer- you can't see right through it in enough places  But it's handsome. Like 9/10 of all naked bikes the headlight's far too high, that robs it of its stance, bit of a fail that. In fact the whole top yoke/bars looks too high, but the headlight makes it really obvious. Likewise the brake fluid reservoir.
And I HATES me the underbraced JMCs. They only look good on ZRXs.

Rickman made a CR version of this in the 70s which had the added advantage of a frame that handled well too.
I do like that, it has an almost Voxan look about it.

That's a lovely bike, definitely!
Reminds me of the Ace Cafe racer, now that is a stunning bike...

A guy I knew years ago had an F2 CB750, and he was bragging about how it would do 70 in 1st gear!!!
Jeez, what a nutter!

Your comments are most valid as usual NW. As a design exercise you're totally 100% right. The bike would have looked more stunning if it had the front instruments, bars and headlight lower to start the lines flowing to the tank and seat. On the ergonomic side though this bike feels very much right. You feel comfy upon it as the bars are not that low and the headlight offers some wind protection. So lets just say that the owner made a very good compromise. It doesn't look that bad albeit it could have looked better. As I've stated before I tend to agree that the swingarm is overkill on this sort of bike but then again I couldn't go against the guys reasoning that he built this on a budget using the spares he had lying around and it would have been a shame to let a swingarm go to waste when it was there sitting on his shelf. Better than the stock Honda item for sure.

I think if he dropped the headlight an inch, and fitted a flat-top reservoir, it'd get its crouch back... Good point on the bars, it's obviously made to be ridden and daft caff racer bars would hurt that.
