View Full Version : Tents...

I need to know how many tents will be pitched. I do not need to know how many people are in those tents just how many tents.

Please vote if you are intending to camp. If your other half has already posted and voted, please do not bother. If you are sharing a tent with a mate, make sure only one of you in that tent votes.

I need fairly accurate figures.

+1. If I'm there, I'm likely to be in a B&B. Mainly because I'm hoping to hop over the channel around Europe just after the AR & don't really want to carry too much kit on the bike.

Haven't voted, because there's no option for "No thanks, B&B for me." :D

i probably won't be needing it before then, but i feel rather guilty for leaving it with you for so long, plus it's a perfect excuse to try and make my way to a TV meet.

We have a Vango Omega 250, very spacious for the two of us with an porch for all the bike gear. Goes on the back easy (there's a rack on the bike) with roll mats bungeed on top and one sleeping bag in each pannier (they zip together :-D :makelurve:)

Ive go a vango Delta 300, its a 3 man tent which really means its a two man tent with a bit of room and a porch, might be selling it though, my camping days are over, will be looking for B&B .

I have the Delta 300+ - the vango tents with a + in the name have a porch and a back door - means more storage.

Mind you I usually use my Vango 200 - which is light, packs tiny and is big enough that me and Vixis didnt have any problems with it, despite it being a little snug :)

Personally I would always go with Vango - and these guys (where I got my last tent from) are doing good deals - but avoid the pop-up tents - they dont pack down very well

http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Outdoor_Megastore_Vango_Adventure_Tents_35.html

If you want smaller tents (easier to put on the bike, but phsycally smaller)

And if you have money to burn

I've got a Blacks Cygnus, sleeps two comfortably with gear inside also and sits at least four comfortably whilst drinking Cider until the wee hours, ask Soulkiss and Quiff. Packs up nicley and fits on the back under a cargo net with the sleeping bag and rollmatt (although some extra bungees are required if you're carrying all three on the back)

Looks like this

If all goes well will have this for the AR09 though

I've got the Vango Gamma 250 on which I find the porch bit extremely useful for storing soft luggage, boots etc. I may go on the search for a very small cooking stove because I'm a coffee addict and need a lot of brews each day, even though I've changed to decaff.

I'll bring my double airbed and mini-compressor (complete with newly fitted plug to fit the Optimate charger lead)

There's plenty out there, pantrasher has one which fits into a mug, gas canister is similar sized, the whole thing is titanium and weighs sod all.

I love my little coleman stove and light, they're awesome...

Stove:

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/Images/Products/44354_633440245982500000.jpg

Collapsed, the stove head is about the size of my thumb, and the small gas can is tiny too... But it's still powerful. Not particularily stable but still good enough. The lamp is a wee bit bigger, but it takes the same gas cans and is still titchy.

That really is a very good description of yourself Tim. I'll pitch next to you if I can drink the other half of your bottle of whisky, won't hear a thing then!

And for this ......

Magic moment was at 3 am, lying in my tent trying to decide if I can hold it till morning, when three blokes climbed over the wall out of the cow field next door and **** themselves when they heard Tim Wilky snoring. Quote of the weekend

'There's a (f-word) dog growling down there!"

I'm afraad I can't commit to tentage this early in the game (it's over 2/3rds of a year away) for a number of reasons:

1) No Bike Yet
2) Not sure of the date yet and if I can come
3) Not sure of the state of my early morning arrousal at Ar09

Once I can answer some of the above in a serious manner I shall reply to this thread with less tongue in cheek.

I wish people would stop blaming the poles, if the doleys in this country would get off their arses and get trained then there's be no jobs for the eastern block lot!!
