View Full Version : Biking highs for 2008

All in all, despite not actually getting out to ride as much as I'd have liked, and putting aside one particularly large hiccup early in the year, 2008 was actually a pretty good one. Now the bikes are tucked up in the garage and the roads are too greasy to bother with, it's time to reflect on the highs.

Highlights for me were:

- a great run to France in May - no real high speed hoonery (for a change) but vast quantities of booze and a trundle round Ypres.

- getting rid of the SV and getting back on something fun. Hurrah!

- my first "long distance" run on the RGV - all the way to Derbyshire. Go me. 300 miles without blowing up!

- an absolutely glorious trip to the Chimay classic races in Belgium. Loud bikes, strong beer, campfire idiocy and a high speed 200 mile dash through Belgium and France to catch the train home.

- the RGV, post service. For something so small, it's a brilliant weapon for embarrassing people on far bigger bikes and it smells and sounds gorgeous to boot

So, come on, ignore the lows, what did you do on two wheels this year that you're going to look back on in years to come and think "yeah, 2008 rocked"?

The only biking high this year was the AR. Not done much social riding at all in 2008 to the cost of fuel and the lack of cash. I hope that 09 will hold a couple of trips to Wales, and some more time out with Verna on her bike. We said it in 07 'We must get out more' Like that happened :(

Under 13 quid to brim the GSXR on Sunday.

When prices were at their peak it was costing me about 18 quid (plus about 4 quids worth of oil) to do 80 miles on the RGV. At that price, even a feckless moneybags like me was starting to think twice.

I know what you mean, if you guys do the Wales thing put a post up on the South West Surfers area and there's plenty of people that would come out with you or take you around (unless you already know where you're going)

Do you lot realise this is a thead in a local section for local people?

<Nothing for you here>

Anyway, highlights for me this year.

Top of the list.
1. Meg going pillion for the very first time.
2. AR08. (And Meg's first time as pillion on an AR)
3. Trackday. 1st one after a squillion years of riding motorcycles.

I think this year has got to have been one of the worst years for not completing anywhere near enough social riding. Must try better next year. (I say that every year).
