Hi everyone,

I want to get my parents a DVD recorder for xmas, I'm not sure which one to go for though. There seems to be some that have freeview on it and stuff. Has anyone got one? My parents have sky digital so the freeview isnt really nessacery.

Help me make my parents xmas a merry one folks

And seasons greetings and good cheer to you all

Matt

It depends on how much you want to spend.
I have a panasonic with speakers that plays Divx films that I got for less than £200.
If you want a cheap one make sure it's a brand you know. But for gods sake don't go for a Matsui, they break down really quickly!
Edit - just thought, why don't you get them Sky+ box instead?

I bought one from Tescos last Christmas £89, does the job, also uses RW +-R discs and plays Divx flims, well plays nearly every thing...
I think the'll be cheaper this year.
Liteon DD-A100X (http://www1.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Lite-On-Lite-On-DD-A100X-Mini-DVD-Recorder-With-DivX) for details

Ok, cool. I think the appeal of DVD recorder is my parents can save films and keep them to one side. WIth a sky+ box they might feel they cant keep things permanently

Better would be to get a HDD + DVD recorder (most have freeview as well), would allow them to save to the HDD and then if they wanted to keep the film (and edit out the ads) record it to DVD

Totally agree.

And do get one with freeview. This means you can search through the listings and just 'click' on what you want to record. I wouldn't buy one without
