Energy saving light bulbs

I wish I got them sent free to me :( I have to buy them at £2.84 a pop from asda for the decent ones.

Although if they are sending you crap ones that take 2 weeks to light 1sqm then hhaha

they'd save me even more energy swearing at the damn things if when you tuned 'em on you didn't have to wait 5 bleedin minutes before they actually emit enough light to see anything by! especially in the garage when looking for something small or trying to adjust something on the bike! :smt067:rant:

See now thats why you need the ones I get from asda that are all twisted, they have a larger surface area to emit more light but are smaller in internal area so heat up quickly and produce light instantly.

Like the one below, although not identical........They also emit a relaxing natural light rather than a clinical white horrible light.

They cost £2.84 but they are worth it, ever bulb in my house is pretty much one of these.

I have a 3 storey 4 bed house with lots of lights and my Gas/Electricity bill combined is £59.50.......I just come off a fixed price tarrif and I was told it would go up as my payments were so cheap.......in reality they owe me money so my payments have remained the same and they sent me a cheque lol

wanna send them to me then, when i moved into this house it had ****ty wilko light bulbs, think i have had to replace near on them all now with some old nasty energy bulbs

It's more about how much electricity they use, rather than how long they last. It's something like, they give out the light of a normal 100W bulb but only use the electricity of an 80W bulb. Well once they are warmed up that is:rolleyes:

Do you mean dimmer switches? You get dimmable fluorescent fittings

They do take a while to produce enough light to see owt by, but they do last a while, I've had the same ones in for a year and a half now, no problems yet!

I must admit though they don't stand up to a good bashing very well. YC was trying to swat a fly and missed, I was picking glass out of my wellies and carpet for weeks after! :lol:

I had the first bulb go in 9 years last week, so they do last ages!

But I also have a cupboard full from freebies. I'll have to bring some to the AR for you to all fight over!

you wait we will all start using these bulbs then LED bulbs will become good/cheap enough and we will have to change to the even better energy efficient bulbs!!! but why would manufactures want that, we would only buy a few replacements in our lifetimes!

don't buy anything less that a 20watt cfl... unless you are using it in a table lamp...

the best ones to get are osram.. the worst are philips genie...

i have been using them for about 4-5 years and to begin with i noticed quite a substantial reduction in my leccy bill... my kids don't know the meaning of turning things off..
